This tournament resulted after I wanted to host a small tournament in a format that had been missing from a (big) event. After asking Nili "what is a big tournament you would like to see?", he replied with "DM 2v2 :-D" to which I replied "not even a bad idea, thinking of doing a smaller tournament". This is what got the ball rolling for The Legacy Cup 2. Of course robo joined the party as well as cohost while we were talking to players to gauge their interest in a 2v2 DM tournament. Originally since I was planning to host a smaller tournament I wanted to restrict the sign-up to the top 16 seeds, but seeing we had around 20 sign-ups a bit before the deadline we decided to postpone the deadline and add a round of qualification, which in the end turned out to be a really good decision, since seeding in DM is incredibly difficult to get right. Take a look at the Irish Bros aka The Coaches, they got seed 18, but almost made it to loser bracket round 2 and if they did I am confident they would make it to round 3 as well where QuEnDi C had to give AW to their opponents.
Everyone we asked for their seed gave us the same answer about the top 4. QuEnDi A, B, Tsubenstock and TyRanT Plebs in no particular order, no one really was able to predict what place they thought they would be able to reach. In the end TyRanT Plebs got the 4th seed but managed to beat seed #1 Tsubenstock twice to be crowned champion of The Legacy Cup 2.

Retirements |
[QuEnDi]TrueAfter the QuEnDi A match vs Tsubenstock, Nili interviewed [QuEnDi]True aka klvowledge or Kellan, in this interview he talked about how his passion for the game has changed in the past year and wasn't able to get the right feeling during the games in this tournament. This feeling together with his PhD in mathematics and his potential upcoming job in the stock market, notorious for its crazy hours, made him decide to retire as active professional player. He will however continue contributing to this game and the DM community by hosting DM: Rising Star 3 later this year. We would like to thank [QuEnDi]True for all he did for the DM community, players he coached and the amazing games and memories he produced in his time as active player.
Thank you!

Since I have never really given an interview and I don't plan to do so either, I will write a bit of my story here.
Back when the AoE2 Gold Edition was released on 24 August in 2001, my grandma bought the game for us based on the images on the back of the box about 3 weeks later. This meant for me the start of something great, namely years and year of single player fun. In early 2014 while at work I was trying to relax and focus on developing something for work, so I decided to play the OST of AoC. When loading the video my adblock malfunctioned and played an ad for one of Zak's videos. It got me interested and saved the video link for later that day when I got off work. After binge-watching his videos and later VooblyOfficial's videos I got interested in the pro scene of the game and when War is Coming was announced and learned it was all done by 3 people listed in the Rules and Setting, Taff, MaSmOrRa and Genette, I decided I wanted to help them and sent a message to Taff. I was asked to run the prediction contest for War is Coming together with Comet. He helped me set it up and disappeared a week or 2 later. nimanoe was later added to the contest team as well and it was really good working with him on that project.
Ambitious as I was I did another 2 prediction contest for WSVG and SY Nations Cup II with another one for The Empire Collective Cup hosted by ZeroEmpires on the side.
After that I moved on to posting spoiler free recorded games of Clan Masters: Invitational and Arabia 1v1 Invitational. During that I hosted a prediction contest for Arabia 1v1 Invitational as well and robo was hosting DM World Cup at the same time and asked me to do a prediction contest for that one as well, which I agreed to do.
All of the previous led to something more than I originally wanted. In the beginning I wanted to help Taff with the tournament, be his assistant, but with his retirement from the game he left a big hole which SY asked me to fill, by contacting me to host Clan Masters: The Final Showdown. I did this with nimanoe after he helped me with a lot of prediction contests in the past. The Grand Final of the tournament was a LAN final held in Fuzhou, China. I had the opportunity to go there and it was one of the most special experiences I had regarding this game, hearing the Chinese home crowd cheer for SY and seeing how happy they all were after they beat them in the final. I shared a plane with Nili to China and during the many hour flight he shared parts of the history of the 17 or something years he has been involved with the game, truly interesting stories. He even taught me some form of Chinese(?) poker. A lot of wonderful people joined us at the LAN to either play, stream, admin or just spectate. This led to me meeting the people in person after only speaking to them from behind a computer screen. Some of these people became real good friends, something I didn't expect when it all started, tbh I don't think I could have expected any of this to happen when I first offered my help to Taff back in 2014. Anyway, during the LAN event not only was the Grand Final played, but we reserved some time for a 1v1 mini cup. The first tournament was a massive experience in a lot of ways and helped me when I hosted the next tournament SY Nations Cup 2017, another LAN final, this time I unfortunately was unable to attend in person but it was still a great end to a big tournament, I am sure Finland and Brazil thoroughly enjoyed themselves in China with the experience they got.
Now for the final part of my contribution to AoC, The Legacy Cup 2. It was a real pleasure to work with the highly appreciative DM community and a great tournament.
But all great thing come to an end. In January 2018 I switched jobs to a much more demanding and challenging job which I love a lot, but this leaves me with a lot less time to do all the stuff I did for AoC in the past. With the amount of time I can dedicate to AoC being too small to deliver products of the quality I want, it is time for me to make way for someone else who can dedicate the amount of time it takes to host tournaments that allow everyone to participate.
Maybe one day in the future again, but for now this is the end..
I want to end it with a big thank you to all people who made the time I spent working on this AoC stuff worthwile and helped doing so.

Thank you! |
The DM community really showed its best side to me this tournament. Everyone was respectful and tried their best to get the games played in time. Some teams even waited over an hour for the opponent to show even though they were offered the AW, examples of these teams are Saiyans (vs TDA), Bunk Busters (vs QuEnDi C who ended up giving the AW anyway) and NaBs (vs Syrup Sisters), maybe even more of these instances that I forgot about. All players were friendly and appreciative of the tournament, which always helps as tournament host! So thank you DM community!
Next is a customary thank you to my fellow admins:
robo, every time I make a topic like this I say the same thing about him. Great admin, great support. Also donated about a quarter of the final prize pool to start the tournament off, which is 150 USD. Took care of the tournament updates when there were some EU timezone unfriendly matches.
Nili, responsible for most of the settings and streaming. Also responsible for getting me to host a DM tournament to begin with. Before the tournament there wasn't an established meta for DM with the new civs, so we figured free pick would result in a couple of different matchups, but it soon showed that Khmer + Slavs is the way to go. In the end we probably had too many match were Khmer + Slavs was being played by both sides.
Also a big thank you to everyone who donated towards the prize pool and/or watched one (or more) of the multiple livestreams/VODs of the tournament and of course the people that streamed one or more of these matches ( Memb, Nili, T90Official).
Last but not least there are some people that contributed in a different way, like Marauder, who made another beautiful banner, really love your work man. Thank you. Or Jred, who made a trailer for the tournament. Also pedro, who edited the maps to a DM format. We can't forget Jineapple for the original mod and later TriRem for editing the mod into the maps, which removed the need to play with a special mod, BBT and walls were removed in the map scripts instead of via the mod. This brings me to the last people to thank, the userpatch team, who are responsible for continued great work with the 1.5 userpatch.
Feedback |
Seeing I won't be hosting another tournament anytime soon, but Kellan will still be hosting DM: Rising Star 3 and robo will be hosting another edition of DM: World Cup, we will still give you a format to leave feedback. The feedback should be mostly aimed towards the DM settings, it has been made clear that double elimination probably isn't the preferred format, so try to give some new/relevant feedback.
Format (code)
Code:
What do you think could have been done better?
Anything to add to the mod? Or remove from the mod? (No BBT and walls)
What is your best memory about the games you watched or played?
What team did you find most exciting/surprising?
Thoughts about the civilizations? Too many Khmer + Slavs matchups?
The tournament used an hidden forum for the scheduling, preferable for the future, yes or no?
Suggestion of things to include in future DM tournaments?
Anything else?
Thank you for everything and goodbye!
