Welcome to the DM World Cup prediction contest, a big thank you to

The prediction contest will consist of two methods. These methods are a place prediction for the Group Stage and a wagering/odds betting contest (like part 2 of SY

This topic is for the place prediction for the group stage. The premise of this is simple: predict the outcome of the two players of each group to advance and receive gold based on how close your prediction is to the actual outcome. This gold will be added on top of the starting amount after the group stage.
Rules |
- Participants can enter any time before the deadline. The deadline for the Group Stage part of the contest is Wednesday 13th April 2016 23:59 GMT.
- When matches are scheduled and played before the deadline, you will no longer be able to place any bets on the group the match belongs to.
- An entry consists of a prediction of the two players who will advance to the knockout stage per group.
- Entries must be submitted using the template below.
- Multiple entries will result in disqualification.
- You are allowed to edit your future predictions up until the entry deadline. Please mark on your entry somewhere that you made an edit. Any edits made after the deadline will void that entry.
- Rules are subject to change as deemed necessary.
- Prediction contest admins are
nimanoe,
prv_limb and
Tsu_NilPferD. Admins can always be contacted with any questions or other things concerning the contest.
- You must have a PayPal account to receive your prize.
Rules - Wagering/Odds Betting |
- A participant may not bet more gold than they have. If a participant reaches 0 gold, they can no longer participate in the contest.
- Every week there is a limit to how much a player may spend per bet, for the first week the limit will be 100 gold per bet. The height of limit will be included in the forum post with the bet for that week. The purpose of this is to prevent people from going “all-in” in the last week in an attempt to get first place when there is obviously no penalty for busting. The idea of this contest is to reward excellence over the course of the tournament, not being decent over the tournament and lucky in the last week. This figure may be adjusted depending on standings in the last few weeks.
- After placing a wager, the player will appear on the leaderboard post. The leaderboard will show, in addition to the total gold for that player, how many are “Available” and how many are “Wagered”. Wagered gold are defined as gold that are tied up in a wager that has not yet concluded. Available gold are all the remaining gold the player has left. You may only use “Available” gold to place new wagers.
- The leaderboard does not update in real time. It updates as often as we get around to updating it. It is therefore recommended that each player keeps tabs on their own wagers to be sure they actually have the available gold before placing wagers if necessary.
- Unless otherwise specified, all wagers do not consider restarted games as part of the match. If a wager is regarding the first game, for example, it refers to the first completed game and does not count anything that may happen in any restarted games prior.
Wagering Structure and Tickets
- For each “week” of the tournament, a list of available wagers will be posted in a separate thread. In order to place a wager, players will fill out a “ticket” by replying to the thread. For the last week the wagers can only be submitted through PM.
- A ticket consists of a list of the wagers chosen and the amount of the wager. A ticket does not need to consist of every available wager for that week. Participants may choose to take as many or as few wagers as they choose. See the weekly wager list for details.
- Tickets will be rejected if a) they are not filled out correctly, b) the participant wagers an amount he/she does not have available, c) the participant wagers on a match he/she potentially is participating in, or d) breaking any other rule.
- You are allowed to edit your future bets up until the entry deadline. Please mark on your entry somewhere that you made an edit. Any edits made after the deadline will void that entry.
- Entries must be submitted using the template in the respective topics.
- You MAY NOT place wagers on both outcomes of the same bet.
- Tickets for that week will be accepted up until 23:59 GMT on Tuesday of that week, unless another deadline is stated in the forum post for that week. This should give you at least one full day for every bet from the previous week to conclude. If a match is scheduled for before that time, that particular wager will close at the scheduled time.

Scoring - Group Stage |
Each entry will receive points based upon accuracy of their predictions and such. The entry with the highest total at the conclusion of the tournament is the winner. In case of a tie, the prize will be split amongst the winners.
Scoring will work as follows:
- For predicting the exact placement (1st or 2nd) of a player receive 10 gold.
- For correctly predicting the players who qualify for the knockout stage receive 5 gold.
A "perfect" entry is worth 360 gold broken down as follows:
240 gold from rule 1, with 24 perfect placement predictions
120 gold from rule 2, for correctly predicting the 24 qualified players
Scoring - Wagering/Odds Betting |
- The majority of the wagers will be even money wagers. This means that if you bet 50 gold, you will either win 50 gold or lose 50 gold. Your potential payout is the same as your wager.
- Some wagers will be set up as Odds bets where the payout will vary. These will be structured as followed:
Team A vs. Team B: Who will WIN this matchup?
A. Team A (Odds: 1.5) B. Team B (Odds: 3.0)
The odds listed represent the decimal payout of your wager. For example, if you wagered 50 gold on Team A, you would get 1.5 x 50 = 75 gold for a win, or a net of 25 gold. If you wagered on Team B, a win would get you 50 x 3.0 = 150 gold, or a net of 100 gold. In both cases, you would lose your 50 gold wager if you did not win the bet. Even money betting (EVS) is the same as if both outcomes had an odds of 2.0. If odds are not specified, the wager is an even money wager.
