The standard, standalone UP v1.5 Beta will be public in about 3 days. Voobly will get it around the same time, if all goes well with their work in updating the client.

That's a decision for the admins, but I think it would be best to keep things consistent by running the tournament with the original rules/setup in order to avoid introducing unexpected issues in the middle of important games.

I'd rather play with 1.5 instead of waiting for some 1.4 bugged patrol making a team lose a game.

by the way, this "nomad" version really sucks balls hard.

The fun part about nomad is the randomness, so much variation. Middle lake; big/small, connected to the outside or not. Crossings. Outside water fully around or is the land connected to a side.

But now its fixed and boring

You know, I don't disagree with this sentiment. I'll explain how we ended up with this style of Nomad though.

There were three things that caused us to look into changing the land generation to begin with:

(1) The frequency with which ponds appeared on the landlocked edge that fooled players into docking there but only contained 0-3 deep fish. Sometimes this represented a scouting failure, but it could frequently just be bad luck.

(2) The overall fishing distribution - see the map below, which is a landmass generation you can get with standard Nomad (this is actually SYNC_Nomad's resources on standard Nomad's land, 8-player map size):

(3) Having a more consistent landmass to work with allowed for better tuning of forests and resources. This wasn't a priority, but was something I came to realise after experimenting with the land because of (1) and (2).

I remember me and prv_limb went back and forth over this for a really long time on the night before the maps had to be finalised. We were far from totally happy with the end result, but I'd say we just ran out of time to arrive at a more elegant solution before the maps had to be finalised, and so we went with a version of the map that, whilst arguably less interesting, was very competitive.

One thing you can see in the current SYNC_Nomad is that the edge ponds still appear sometimes, and this is because we were well aware of the variety issue. Increasing the land_percent within the defined borders will, at a certain value, stop the ponds appearing, at a cost of making the land extremely fixed. In the release version of SYNC_Nomad that value is sitting a little lower than the amount needed to completely eliminate the edge ponds because we were consciously trying to add a bit of variety back into the map.

well i think thats the 1% chance of a bug map, which can happen on every map.
The only problematic thing about cross is that the fish is spawning next to the coast making the map hardly dockable

What is completely changed in SYNC_Nomad is that players spawn as a team instead of having villagers scattered around the map.

Picking nomad in our games vs austria was a big dissapointment, it was like playing coastal just that you spawned with no tc. There were no randomness and no crazy Jupe lakes to dock, it was like playing a normal game with so much food.

Dont even wanna comment the BiFi map.

That sounds like pretty good advice, but somehow I think the map has even changed from when it was first released. (we didn't want to play it again after this first time as all the players, SY included, found it that un-fun.)

At least here there is the possibility of mid lakes on the map and it's not just some ugly rectangular plot of land. However, even in this version of the map there are plenty of unwelcome changes, like "team together," changes in food distribution, villagers starting closer, etc...

The only change I would welcome in vanilla nomad is having a somewhat more fair distribution of stone and gold across the map. All changes besides this do nothing but make the map boring and noob friendly. For me, the point of Nomad is to test a team's ability to adapt to unpredictable circumstances, and I find these changes to be missing the whole point of the map.

I consider myself to be a very experienced TG nomad player, and I would NOT pick this map in it's current state even if there were 4 of me on the team.

This was actually desired by the admins long before the idea of overhauling all the maps was ever considered. From there we looked at making the distribution of resources more fair, and the project to overhaul all the maps grew out of that.

I'm told that SY and one of the Brazilian teams are actually really happy with SYNC_Nomad btw. That doesn't mean I think it shares the spirit of vanilla Nomad, though, because it clearly doesn't, but it wouldn't be the only map in the pool to be significantly different to its standard counterpart - see Mongolia, Black Forest, etc.
