Even though I agree with you that recs in this case are better than live games, this argument above doesn't make much sense to me, since there have been numerous tournaments run like this before (pretty much all of the Hippo tournaments). These big esports and football leagues can say, right, 12pm, this game happens, 3pm, these games happen and 5.30 pm this game happens.
Try setting up a tournament in AoE doing exactly that and seeing how it goes. Sure, in a perfect world we have exactly the same stream but it is all live - but given the alternative I can't see how live games strung across many different days, maybe just for a quick 2-0 is a better option.
True, but most people sealed their lips tight. I would say that the plan worked out well enough. That is, unless robo ninja modded all of them before I saw any.Well, for starters, a lot more than 10 people are aware of the results beforehand. I could cite several examples of players spoiling the results (directly or indirectly) since the tournament began. Comes with the territory in a small community.

Now I'm not saying that it's easy and most hippo tournaments were 1v1s, which is easier to organise than teamgames obviously, but it certainly is possible to organise them like this.
Only the team that get final play like 3 week-end/month and if they are on final they get good money but, not even tbh; because there is break and there is also the weeks where ECL is streamed, in reality its more like 1 week-end / month ratio than every week end. Some event are 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, its not 1 year tg event, for us many times we feel we are afk and cant wait the next event to happens, but we have to wait like 1,5 month. If being live isnt possible for X reason, still there is way to make ecl more hype, more polls, interview, podcast, topics, discussion etc, this week-end was good and very hyped although the number of viewers wasnt that greatThe big point of ECL is consistent streaming, not only are team games harder to schedule like this, doing it over a long period of time is impossible for the current state of aoe2. Comparing to one off events isn't too fair, since making yourself free for one day is not nearly as big a commitment as for doing it every other week for a year.
Well it's only 2 Saturdays for one event right now, so it's not that much different from most of these one off events where players had to be available for Saturday + Sunday. The big point of ECL is consistent streaming, not only are team games harder to schedule like this, doing it over a long period of time is impossible for the current state of aoe2. Well that's even better than right? So the players have some flexibility if they want to play on Saturday or Sunday for the first round. It's only potentially the Finals which would need to be played on a separate day for the players, but I think 3 Best of 5s on one day is still possible.@nimanoe it's only one saturday on a week atm, but if it were live with issues that brings then it would be extremely likely to be over both days because 12 hour streams are a bit ridiculous for everyone involved.
Just saying , if anyone watches chinese streams . They hit like 100k viewership mark when playing their ECL Games live
IMO the prize pool for ECL is big enough where it's fair to ask the players to suck it up and show up at a live time. Just roughly organize the teams by average timezone and then tell them to show up.
Recreational football leagues get amateur players to show up at the right time for games to happen, I really think it should work for a game you play from home when there are thousands of $$$ on the line. Maybe expand the rosters a bit and require a team to have at least one sub available in case of FP or technical issues.
If sy and frantic can agree on terms and form an official casting stream then it would be nice... can be named as something like ECL-chinese, invite some players to do the cast, then split the stream income etc..Isn't that a big problem itself (that some of the gams have been lively casted on some streams before the ECL official casting)? People like me watch both twitch and the chinese streams. Before I knew ECL official streaming is actually replay, I have already watched the Frantic and SY games live on the chinese streams, and I was wondering why the hell no discussion at all about those games in the rest of the world in the last week (I literally googled them).
This Friday when I saw all the predictions in another post, I got a feeling that I come from the future. If the organizers decided to cast replays on a scheduled day after the games are actually played, they should make sure no leakage at all before their official casting, right?
So, this isn't a movie/music/tv show - it's an esports event/league streamed on twitch. Most (? all) other esports do that live. Or do it once live and once as a rerun. ECL is the anomaly here.
Even in seasonal leagues, the games are broadcast & viewed in person live... Barcelona don't play vs Real Madrid in an empty stadium, then the players, managers etc. say nothing about the match for 2 weeks before a recording of the match is played.
I don't think we're at the point where we just resort to managing expectations yet...

Before ECL started I was one of the people in Yo's QQ group that pushed Yo to negotiate for a ECL CN channel, and we eventually got him to contact Esacpe. However that never became a reality, perhaps due to issues in uploading to twitch, even with VPN (which Yo tested on stream), as well as a clash in stream time and sleep schedule, as ECL could be streaming until 5 am in our timezone (So an ECL CN channel isn't easy to set up). Of course there's also the theory about stream income where they claim that CN players don't earn enough if ECL blocks their schedule and don't provide income (which is an arguement in favor of Chinese live streaming ECL), but personally I don't buy it.
Precisely because of this issue with sleep schedules, personally I don't believe ECL should be streamed live - the big esports events where they can schedule whenever they want? Those also paid to fly the players in, have a MUCH HIGHER prize pool, or don't last over a year.
1. These Chinese streaming platforms have too many ads flying on the screen, and they are laggy or stop streaming from time to time. I generally need to F5 my browser for 10-20 times for the streaming window to show up.
2. Resolution and fps are generally poor comparing with twtich, e.g. sometimes I cannot read scores on the screen because they are too blurred.

Agree that east Asia viewers can hardly follow official ECL streaming hours. For example, ECL Africa 2v2 streaming started at 10pm of my local time, say that I'd like to view Secret vs SY, then I need to wait until 4am, and I guess I'm just too old to do this lol.
Regarding live streaming of China players: I do watch them if I have time but I don't think it will diverge viewers from ECL official stream:

3. Most importantly, the map is covered by war fog from player's PoV so I cannot see the big picture of the game. Also, the player may be completely unaware of a battle on the other side of the map or simply ignore it, even if you can see something interesting on the mini map.
I've watched recordings of all ECL Africa 2v2 series on twitch on Sunday - and I know it's not live.
If you are not in east Asia time zone and not speaking Chinese, I see even less reason to open a laggy website at 8am, close tons of ads, then watch a 360p streaming without understanding anything the streamer is talking about - just for spoiling yourself before ECL official streaming.
ok :PIf anyone is interested in creating an interview series, specifically for ECL, please PM me.
Are those stats in the PDF considered good? I'm asking because I would think they would be, but lack perspectiveEdit: I have attached a short review PDF of Europe East to give people and idea of where we are at right now-
I would like to hear more suggestions on what to do-
We have said it before but: if we said that the games were live and played in a secret lobby then nobody would have any idea that the games are recs. why is it impossible to speculate and talk about the matches? All of the info is available.
We have the http://Escape.gg website where lots of info can be found. We also have social media where we post about upcoming games- http://Facebook.com/EscapeAoE http://twitter.com/EscapeAoE
I like the idea of having a talk show on the Sunday, to recap the games. That’s the best suggestion I have seen so far.
For doing live games. There’s a thread already where I have a schedule of how the week would look, you say there would be more viewers but would there really be? When the games are played at the following times:
Tuesday 12:00 - Yo vs Zuppi.
Wednesday 19:30 - TheViper vs Melkor. (Scheduled at 19:00, just 30 mins before it was played).
Thursday 12:00 - CooL vs DauT.
Saturday 12:00 TheViper vs Vivi -Final. (Scheduled the day before it was played).
