Maybe its to bring out the truth - who knows. Edit: Just saw the OP part, on my part I have mentioned my intents earlier in the thread - do give it a thorough read.IMO:
1. The guys(Carlos,John and OP) have created a body of work around criticising Islam whose purpose I have never been able to comprehend
I am not even fighting on the contents of the Quran - if an ideology can be interpreted in hateful ways and widely so then the ideology is flawed. If you insist that it is perfect then there is no room left for improvement, but only back and forth interpretations which serve no purpose.2. they think their research is fairly analytical which it probably is but it has very little to do with how an avg muslim comprehends their own religion. Its easy to pick half constructed corner cases in any literature and fight arguments against for it
I don't care how the average muslim comprehends his religion - his religion is none of my business, the problem starts when many of them start getting inspired by their religion for violence, hatred, oppression and terrorism. In such a situation I would want the religion to improve - by a process of criticism, change and improvement , but no, it is largely professed to be already quite perfect.
You follow this reasoning and no one anywhere will be able to critisize any concept or ideology, since every area has some problem or the other. The problems here might be(I personally do not agree, but see arguing on this anyways as irrelevant - see the first point) of similar nature but no independent observor would say that they are of the same scale. Nor are they related to religion.3. Its absolutely hypocritical as some of you have pointed out for them to poke noses at others when their own house(India) is littered with problems which are of similar nature( anti secular violence), woman harassment and many others.. If my own house is infested with pests I dont go to others house to spread pesticides(given they like living in metaphors)
You are welcome to criticize them anyways (I would prefer another thread), and I will not make the absurd argument then that your country too has problems so you should not criticize mine own. Really there is not even a point of getting touchy about it, if you can suggest problems with India and solutions to it - you are MOST welcome to do so.
Edit: I don't remember arguing versus you in the past, in fact I have never argued this topic before. All the arguments which I have given - none of them require a study of the Quran - I openly confess to not having the inclination to read it.4. Its impossible to argue back and forth when you are convinced about your stance. They have done so much study on this topic( thin, weak and callous as I might add) that they would at this point argue just for the sake of the hours they have put in
P.S.
You would think I am making some smart *** comments but I have tried arguing my thinking with them in the past to no avail
