Anyone noticed these themes in the previous events or knows what they mean?

Upon inspection, the cover art for each of the events does seem to vary a little stylistically, and you see this one has longboats, a kraken, Lil Trouble with furs and a claymore. Don't know why they do that without also theming the map pool or something accordingly, but eh.

 

Must have been a relief for the person designing the graphics not to have to struggle with the spelling of Nivoc's name this time.

Yes, and the Riut v. Daniel matchup in the HC4 qualifier had to be called off because Riut was secretly Daniel all along, try to keep up.

 

I would love to see Red Bull sponsor something with more serious settings. Their maps are great tho

I find the RBW settings very serious and all the tournaments have proven to be highly competitive. Besides, the qualifiers are by far the most entertaining qualifiers I have seen so far.

It is the artwork and design of overlays, screens, etc. But yeah, would be nice to see that reflected in the map design as well, at least visually but potentially even with the style of the maps.

Nobody plays that game mode outside of RBW. There is no meta whatsoever. When was the last time any patch touched Empire Wars?
I mean even on the 3rd iteration Daut could just pick a different civ, not even doing a special strat and everyone was surprised.

no meta is by far the best in EW. i prefer normal settings, but that is the best thing of EW

Honestly I find this aspect perhaps to be the most interesting.
No meta means that everything needs to be figured out, which means the best prepared, most creative and smartest players will win, and not necessarily those who execute the most optimal "meta" the cleanest.

I looked at the maps. There is indeed a bit more water and an Islands-like map. The theme definitely adds someting to it.

 

I just looked at the map pack and I'm already excited for the event! Chrazini, you're the best!

I really like your approach on Northen Isles. Putting a ton of gold in the middle and adding a transport ship in dark age is nice. I really feel like player won't be able to turtle and go for feitoria with this map. On that map, I feel like you should either put 1 spawn of deer or force them to be either in the same spot or separate. The first generation had one player with both patches at the same place and the other one splitted.
