Current Situation on Aoe4 and Aoe2

AoE4 might not be explicitly growing, but it definitely seems to have stabilized with a reasonably sized player base.
AoE3 is in a similar place, and has a really wonderful competitive community

We will see about that, all we know that slight increase compared to last month but it is still less than two months earlier and about half of 3 months ago. Similar situation happened in March and April where AOE4 gained viewers but trend did not change and it actually started to go down already, until the end of month with current trend we will around 1K viewers again.

Yeah I was talking about players, not viewers.
I think AoE4 will ultimately have a stronger player base than viewer base, because it is such a chore to watch

Originally, disaster casting overlay etc.
Some of that has been fixed, but definitely not as nice as capture age etc.

I find the games to be much slower paced, with lots of camping. The viewpoint is also just super aggravating (also recently improved slightly)

Past that, I just find the animation of the units fighting to be so underwhelming. Feels like two sacks of jello hitting each other until one dies

Also the muted color aesthetic and sound design makes the observer feel disconnected from the action.

I'd say that's pretty far off, if you consider people who play daily / a few times a week to be core players. A single point in time at around 21 gmt does not really get everybody who's playing regularly. You can multiply that by 2-5 perhaps just by considering that this is the

I'm willing to say no statistician would take data like this and present it as an average.
steamcharts and steam probably take it by the hour. At least I hope steam uses unique identifiers. That it doesn't count the same person twice.

For me it's better to see how many people launched the game on steam/gamepass on average during each month. Because even if on steam you launched the game just to play campaigns or versus the AI, you are part of that number. The only players that this number isn't contemplating are the players who have bought AOE2 HD or AOE2 DE legally but on any given day are playing the game in Offline Mode.

Yea that's more like it. Whoever fires up the game and has the relative amount of a session. I'd say for aoe2 it would be 35 minutes. That's conservatively spoken.
In Counterstrike it's 40-45 minutes for one matchmade skirmish. Teams very rarely quit or surrender.

why do they keep only 7 maps in the pool with only 3 bans with 5 worthless maps each 2. week, I hear they improved AoE 4 maps in july patch, time to fix this

This is a top 2 map pool.

Only thing better was hideout, nomad, and socotra.

The map pool was decided by 407 voters, compared to 40 000 players in 1v1 ranked ladder. In-game voting should've been in the game from the release, not promised two and a half year after.

What an odd sense of entitlement to think that if you don't like the map pool, no one likes the map pool. If you don't like the map pool, then go out and vote.

It's true that only 1% decides three of the seven maps in the map pool, but it's also the 1% that cares enough to bother logging into the forums (which I agree is a hassle) and actually vote for their favourite maps. Obviously it would be more democratic to have every one of those 40k players vote, but until then there is nothing stopping you from making your voice heard in the current system.

In last week's vote for example, it was very close between Fortress and Mediterranean for 3rd spot. And when I say very close, there was literally a handful of votes between the two. We noticed it, and we encouraged people within the clown community to vote, and I'm pretty sure that this effort made sure we can happily play Fortress for the next two weeks instead of Mediterranean. Again, we care about the map pool (not in the least because we are the ones that end up playing these maps all the time), we make our voices heard and this week it made a difference.

and I tried to like pre walled maps but they are not for me, same goes for socota, but Im giving socota another chance this rotation because Im forced to play atleast 1 annoying map

I actually did try to vote a few other times the maps were horrible, but as you say it's a hassle and happens way to often for my liking.

I never claimed I spoke for everybody or that nobody liked the map pool, ofcourse I know people like different maps and thats fine.

My rant came after last time I played I got 2/3 games on superrandom , then right before my post I had 1 socota game and 1 nile delta game, after my rant I got 5 arabias in a row so I feel better about the game now.

My problem is just the maps change so fast so I don't see the point in learning them, if I knew they were in the pool for 2 months yea I could use some hours to learn the basic, but a normal week I play maybe 5-10 hours and then I don't want to waste it by playing maps I don't like

I tried to do some research on nile delta because I have not played it, but all I could find was a game of Bact in a old showmatch from paradox were it was no video, then I played it and could not build TC anywere and bans already used on wall maps and socota so I whine, big deal

Nile Delta is a legitimately terrible map as far as balance/fairness goes. It depends heavily on transport ship spawn. If you are slightly further away and go for the same side (50/50 chance) then you could be 1+ minute behind on TC placement with no real counterplay.

Why is nile delta even a map on the pool? it is a custom scenario, it is always the same map and positions... CBA would be better you know.
