Current Situation on Aoe4 and Aoe2

It's true that only 1% decides three of the seven maps in the map pool, but it's also the 1% that cares enough to bother logging into the forums (which I agree is a hassle) and actually vote for their favourite maps.

I tried voting few times, but you have to login and then login again and i just gave up, that system is not only not in game, but also total titanic, like here on forum voting system is 10x better than that nonsense, so yeah, your argument of not voting doesnt really hold on this one. And indeed, those map pools are trash for arabia players, and lately they been extra trash than usually. Runestones also became only a memory lol

It’s a short term hike because of aoe4 being extremely cheap on Taiwan steam + vpn. Let’s see how many stick around in a month.

I don't think patches made a difference in player count, it kept on slowly declining untill this massive discount on Taiwan store.

AOE4 is going through a temporary boom in player numbers due to the price discounts, as expected.
Regardless of how many of those new players stay around, it can't be bad news for the game. A few of all the new players will stick around long-term, and a few new players is better than no new players.

Hm lets see what this does to the player numbers. I also wonder if it was the plan from the beginning, to give away the new civs for free

24,99 € is also a much more reasonable price than 59,99 €. I am still hesitant, because I am no big fan of the game and don't even play anything more than a few days per year nowadays.
But in general, if I would buy (new) games, I would much more likely look in the 10-20 € range than anything above 30 €.

Well aoe4 had already fell in price, now with 50% is closer to aoe2 price tag and it seems reasonable, but i am not sure if its worth at this point, without mods to remove the playmobile graphics.

I believe Red Bull was the last tournament organized during the aoe4 hype phase. Now it will be interesting to see how much money organizations are going to invest into this game going forward, while knowing it failed massively on the broad audience and will exist from now on as an even smaller niche than aoe2.
I predict not a lot.

I like that kind of free weekend, maybe they're rly confident that the last changes made the game good so that people buy it afterwards, whether that confidence is justified or not...

Making the DLC F2P is the real surprise here, it kinda makes sense to make Civs F2P for Matchmaking but aren't campaigns included in the DLC aswell? Adding F2P Campaigns would sound weird, so maybe just new Civs.
Would like that for AoE2 aswell, new Civs in MM for everyone and just pay for Campaigns.

The game still looks shitty and oh boi Malians and Ottomans as new civs. Whenever I see Aoe4 clips my first thought is "oh nice whats new for Aoe3?". I have more interest in buying AoE1 DE than playing Aoe4. Over and out.

The discount is an admission that they set their price too high or set expectations too high for what was budgeted for performance.

I don't view the discount as an attempt to build a community but an attempt to recoup as much from the investment as possible. Given the recent change to add two civs and only provide minor updates, I fear for the AOE4 community if it doesn't work out.

FE's new positions were confirmed to be "brand new" and working on the aoe franchise, so wouldn't surprise me if they got a relative long-term contract for more aoe4 DLCs.
