Re: Quality of the current casters
If zero co casted with katsuni I think that would have pissed of everyone.
If zero co casted with katsuni I think that would have pissed of everyone.
Dreams's stream is the reason I started playing aoc online in the first place. Such a shame he isn't active anymore.
I didnt read all post of the topic but I will tell my opinion, I dont know if it has been said or not.
I have a lot of fun with Katsuni and memb, why?
They are not english native and for me their english is way more understandable than zak, or any english/usa guy. They also use familiar vocanulary(I mean friendly etc ...) I know somes may prefer prrofessional guy than Katsuni, but I think he is professional and funny, it's hard to not laught at his stream.
Also, the main thing that make me defend Katsuni vs all streamer is that compared to ALL others caster/streamer, he does way more for aoc an for FREE.
He is the one making aoc zone alive, posting that much games without him we all know how this forum can be boring. To me you cant compare him with mystery enigma or others, just check the number of post he has. 17k? Other 2k i think..
Katsuni stream for voobly official and ALWAYS accept to stream games, even if its game between two 15+ if he been asked to do it he will do, I mean by that, he stream all games and not only the main important one, somes streamer caster stream only final tourney, tyrant games, 2k4 games...
All Voobly streamer dont win money by stream.. All the money go for futur event/tourney/aoc.
To me it is more than normal that katsuni is allowed to stream TW2 or somes event, he deserve more than any, he does dirty job for free, so he deserve to also can stream the best games, thats normal... Imo..
It's true that Dreams casting were pretty nice ones. I remember, one of the first stream I saw was TheViper vs Daut BO21, that was really wonderfull to hear two 2k2+ casting (Dreams and Jordan some games). Anyway, I still really enjoy actual casters, regardless their level, whether it is Katsuni, Comet, or others as LavieHead, Ra or Nonsensical.
if you aren' happy with the hard work of your casters, i would advise you, to make your own stream
Much like Heisenberg, I am new here. I see him on hd in the evenings sometimes, although he is much better than me I also played on the zone at a young age, and recently have indulged back into the community. Not that it is cared, but I have a lot of streaming in my background, although never an AOE game. I am just going to weigh in my 2 cents on a lot of the topics being discussed both here, and the zeroempire mega thread, as some of the things I have read, I have severely disagreed with. Furthermore there is one key point that I feel like everyone is missing that must be discussed. You have been forewarned, if you do not like to read, you best skip over this posting.
Some topics I would like to discuss: Quality of the casters. Rights to streaming games. Appropriate ways to react or behave to something that you disagree with, as well as a few other tidbits.
Let us dive right in. Quality of the casters. Katsuni does a fantastic job at bringing quality content to the community. The quality of his presentation always goes down, when he brings in friends to cast with him. First off the other casters, do not have as much experience as him, so they are constantly searching for what to say. Yet still, I think one would rather cast with a friendly voice beside him, as oppose to hours on end by himself. Newer casters will get better the longer they stream, and those who speak english as a second language, will better command the language thru speaking with other english speaking casters. I frequently have a caster from taiwan join me on call on my stream. He is a translator, yet his spoken language is not very good, especially around those who speak english very well. While my general following may have trouble understanding him, I am able to reach out to so many more people that speak english as a second language. You have to keep in mind, that while those with a strong command of the english language will prefer a caster who is similar, those without a strong command of the English language will much prefer a caster who is similar. I can't tell you how many times I have laughed when Katsuni says, "he is having such bad wood." The moral of this paragraph being that each indvidual is going to prefer different types of casters. Some people like hype casters (very exciting) some like technical casters (pro players) while others just like casual casters.
Now let's talk about the rights to stream games. As far as I understand, those participating in games, would have the right as to allow their game being streamed. Some tournaments make rulings that the players must have their games streamed. Let's talk about the most recent issue and zeroempires not being allowed to stream the Tyrant Wars 2, as this seems to be the hot topic. One fact that everyone seems to be skipping over so quickly is the fact that, Tyrant specifically asked for only Katsuni and his crew to cast this game. Let's think about some of the reasons that they might have asked for this. Keep in mind this is all speculation. First and foremost, look at how much money is being injected into the community from clans like Tyrant and SY. These are anonymous benefactors. Now who really is going to throw 10's of thousands of dollars into a community like this. I see a couple options. First the money never exists and is just made up to build hype, this is possible although not probable. Another option is viewer donations and what not, again this is probable but I doubt a spectator is donating all this money, so that he can watch streams and recorded games. The most likely reason for these large donation, is that, a lot of these guys grew up playing this game from children, and now they are all adults. These top players, made it to the top because they are smart, it is not hard to believe that some of them would excel at other things in life. In my mind all this money is coming from players, whom have made their mark on life in the financial world, and now with their extra money they would like to see the competitive community surviving. They do not want to see their favorite past time die. So they insert their own money into tournaments, so that they can continue to enjoy the game that they love. Obviously the players who are less well off financially, greatly respect them for their contributions to the community. Fact of the matter is, if i put up 10,000 dollars of my own money, then i will want things run my way. Tis the golden rule, them that gots the gold, makes all the rules... As this point connects back to the last paragraph, I will now make another point. The moderation staff around the voobly streams is absolutely terrible. You guys have no policy on when to timeout or ban people for being impolite. I watched Tyrant Wars 2, and after the first match, I just closed the chat completely. Everyone was complaining about Kitty, and you know what she did, she left. Now as far as I understand, this is Jordan's girlfriend or friend. Maybe he wants to get his girlfriend active into the community, and now the community is shunning her, for not being zero empire, or not being the best caster. How will she get better, and how would any of you expect to be as good, being a new caster. The amount of disrespect shown to her was unbelievable and if I was Jordan, I would not even give the viewers the satisfaction of viewing. You guys should think about this seriously, those who have problems with the casters. Furthermore, Voobly's moderation team should really have a policy about banning people who are directly disrespectful to other people. We are only human, and if I met you in real life, I would not let you act so disrespectful to me. The wall of anonymity that streams cast, has a tendancy to bring out the worst in people, as they see that there are no direct consequences to their negative behavior. This is an ideology of all streaming and not just twitch, and the moderating staff should see this and react to it. I know personally if you guys would just ban those 2 or 3 guys that are being so constantly rude and impolite, that I would be happy to engage in a jolly chat, as I am sure many other "nice" lurkers would as well, but when the chat is full of salt, its easiest for me to not engage in it.
Ok so we have talked about caster quality, and rights to stream. To expand more upon rights to stream, lets talk about why Tyrant did not allow Zero to stream. Well the tyrant community is very active around voobly, and also active in the competitive AOE scene. They have had this event for a few reasons. Most importantly the players own enjoyment, being able to play with top players from all over the world. Another thing is that they are trying to advertise voobly, and interest other players at becoming top players with them over at voobly. One benefactor has invested a lot of money in this, as I noted before, probably a long time player with a great job or family money. He is interested in his clan and obviously he is not trying to grow the greater aoe community, but only the competitive community. There is nothing wrong with this, it is his money and he has his reasons. I am sorry that he is not as casual a player as that of Zero and his greater AOE community, but sometimes that is just the way it is. I saw zero's channel several years ago, and said to myself, oh wow that is cool. I had been aware of voobly just as long, and was not interested in either. It was Katsuni's casts on twitch that brought me interest back into the community. You can see where this statement runs many parallels with zero's fanbase. Zero the way you lobbied your fanbase, against voobly for the petition was very unprofessional of you. If you did not think there would be an outlash during the official stream, then you have a lot to learn. If you knew there would be an outlash, I have even less respect for your ties to the aoe community. Your work zero, absolutely destroyed my enjoyment of the tyrant wars 2 cast. The respect or lack thereof that your viewers brought to the voobly stream was beyond rude. These are the exact some complaints that I see from your fanbase in regards to voobly streams. At the end of the day it is unfortunate that for whatever reason, the Tyrant sponsor does not want this event to be as large as possible, and only wants voobly to demand the most attention from the event. Yet still zero for you to disrespect his wishes and publicly attack the sponsor, shows how little respect you have the competitive community and their goals wishes and desires. I know for a fact, that you could have sent messages to tyrant players asking for permission as oppose to posting to youtube/reddit and other sites, in an attempt to start a flame war.
At the end of the day, both parties have much room for improvement, thus is life. Zero you need to respect the wishes of the rest of the community, and not only those of your fanbase. For if you are to improve the community, there need not be such a wall between casual and competitive players, which you attempt to break down, however sometimes its better for the competitive players to have their livestream, and for you to give canned commentary of an expert recording. (I would not want Barbara Walters to cast the Super Bowl, yet I would happily watch any documentary that she did about it) I am sure if you gained a rapport with these big clans and sponsors, they would happily allow you to promote their events. Sounds like you need to do some more networking Zero, as the competitive lovers of the community, are less than happy with you.
Voobly casters, you guys do a great job, but also have much room for improvement. First and foremost, your mods needs to get rid of the people who are blatantly and flagrantly insulting and harassing, other viewers, casters and anyone for that matter. Some light kidding is always fine, but there are always a few viewers who are being very malicious, and are often just ignored. From a commentary perspective, the casting goes down when the skype conversation gets more than one or two casters. Also maybe new casters, should not take on such large projects, although that is just a suggestion. You guys do a great job as is and I am sure will always get better. Furthermore I agree that conversation can become a little preverse, and I have to set the stream to mute if in a working enviroment. Taking notice of some of these things would increase your popularity, although you may not care about your popularity, to which I am fine with this idea. Do what makes you happy.
For all those who signed the petiion, put up your own money, and then you can do whatever you want within the AOC community. Until then, we have to respect the wishes of those who do put the money up. It is always worth for us to put in our own comments, ideas, and suggestions for the community, but at the end of the day it is just that, our suggestions.
I will say one last time, at the end of the day, this is a game! If you are not having fun, than what are you doing with your life?? thank you to anyone who read this, I hope that my ideas and explanations can help you mold your own ideas and explanations. I am very much in support of the voobly community, and I would like to see Zero address some of these commercial matters more privately. I will continue monitoring the communities and may perhaps apply to stream for voobly one day, as I am sure I can do it as well as anyone else out there thank you to all the posters, uploaders, casters, and organizers that keep the community alive #First post, may as well be an epic!

I will continue monitoring the communities and may perhaps apply to stream for voobly one day, as I am sure I can do it as well as anyone else out there thank you to all the posters, uploaders, casters, and organizers that keep the community alive #First post, may as well be an epic!
wtf 11 go rule north korea man, it'd suit youIndividuals who prop up AoFE or Steam's AOE HD do not deserve the support from the AoC community. I'm extremely wary of these mass of new users registering on this website (when most have never ever played a competitive aoc game or on voobly).

How do you define AoC community? Me personally I would say it involves everyone who plays, watches or has an interest in AoC, whether that's playing single player (inc campaigns) or multiplayer, on whatever platform that they choose to play on, watching live streams or youtube or even just reads forums for nostalgic reasons.
I interpret what your saying is that basically those who don't play on voobly, for whatever reasons they may have, don't deserve to play this great game, don't deserve to be a part of this game. Well then what about the 5k+ chinese players from that other thread, they don't play on voobly so they should GTFO and not ask for a vobly-China....
I also strongly reject this labelling of everyone form HD as noob/anti-voobly or whatever the latest insult is in the world of AoC. Yes some players aren't that great, and any average 16xx from voobly is 19xx on HD, why does that mean that we should be shunned by the "AoC community". I personally don't have an opinion on which platform (voobly/HD) is better, having played on both (albeit only ~30 games on voobly), I stay with HD because my friends are here. Does this make me worse then any other 16xx on voobly because I have friends who I enjoy playing with?

I think he is referring to AoC Zone when he says comunity

Well the Chinese probably have their own version of AOC Zone. If players from HD come here and only create an account to complain about the casters on the VOOBLY stream then they deserve to die in a fire. If HD players come here and are willing to learn and be a part of the community I think it is fine.

I think he is talking about the hundreds of HD players that came when zak posted the petition. Again I think if HD players come here and are willing to learn and be a part of the community that is fine.
