When the rules and the format of the tournament were prepared, it was important for the admins to foresee that such a scenario was likely when one of the players could "give" away two points to a person he did not consider as his main competitor. This should have been explicitly stated in the rules (I do not know the rules, in case it has been mentioned then it is fine).
The punishment provided and the subsequent resignation has upset the settings of the tournament. Now with Tim resigning from the tournament, is it such a fair group anymore? To penalise Tim, a reduction in the prize money would have been a more practical solution. Also the admins need to focus on all games and find out if any of them seem to be suspicious. Also what precedent does this decision set? Who decides tomorrow if a game between two members of the same clan is rigged or not? We might have very close ties but decided on the basis of one major mistake towards the late game, people might again raise suspicions about it.
