I come to bring back to life an old discussion:
¿Is mayan farming efficiency below the average?
Reference: http://aoczone.net/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=92508&hilit=mayan+farm
Althought It is reasonable to think the statement is true, i believe it is false, and to prove myself i made an experiment with a very simple scenario made in the AoC editor.
Settings:
- "Pre" Dark age (no technologies at all)
- 1 town center
- 8 farms
- 8 villagers
- The farm placement is 100% symmetric leaving zero space unused in the town center perimeter
- The placement of each villager is exactly in the middle of each's respective farm
Execution:
- The villagers start automatically at time zero, since used a trigger to make it more accurate.
- In minut 5:00, make the 8 villagers droop all the food in the town center thus they finish gathering
Result:
- Huns: 813 food collected; 587(1400) total food left in the farms
- Mayans: 778 food collected; 749(1400) total food left in the farms
Analisis (5:00 minuts time lapsed)
- Mayans collected 4.3% less resources in 5:00 minuts = (813 - 778)F / 813F.
- Mayans made 9.1% extra 'left to collect' food worth 44 wood = ((778 + 749)F / 1400F) * 480W
Conclution:
I could keep doing deeper and more accurate experiments, adding way more extra time lapse, and try with extra technologies, but i believe this information is enough to say that mayan farming have equal efficiency of a regular farming civilization thus doesn't have a significative weight in the strategy, tactic and development of any given game.
I will add extra proof like recordings or other material in the near future to keep this study updated/improved.
Please feel free to make post, your feedback and opinions are all welcome.
