I like the initiative, however I have to agree with others that the current list is way too long,
and I somewhat fail to see why exactly is Keif in there (hes not the only one, but this name makes by far the least sense).
Seriously, if you add Keif, you should add 95% players who ever reached 2k rating (including HD).

I agree with most of the above when considering a Legendary AoE2 Players Hall of Fame.
a list of 25 players
not the current top25 but the players that have: a) had a (very) long streak of dominance and/or b) had a lasting impact on the evolution of how the game is played

Carlos never used m@a the way they are used today. He'd probably be disgusted by the fact that people aren't only doing it as goth and waiting until you reach feudal to queue them so they are cheaper.

I think for someone to be in the hall of fame players need to meet the following conditions; have a wealth of tournament accolades, and/or be recognised as a significant contributor to the game (content creators, old school innovators, ancient legends). Half of the main hall of fame have players whose biggest achievements are making 2200+ or coming top 8 in a tournament.

While it's nice to be mentioned in the subsection I can't claim to have any true achievements other than being an above average tg player in NaBs and winning a couple of tournaments on a map 10% of the community has heard of.

I think one of the most uncontroversial ways to argue for a place in a hall of fame is counting the number of tournament titles. It's no coincidence I mentioned RTSL. RTSL is organized twice a year, consistently and successfully. Players who are successful in RTSL consistently would easily dominate by number of titles - but they seldomly compete with players who don't participate in RTSL but are considered the best by many. So I'm looking for a way to honor RTSL titles while not having RTSL as a statistical dominator. Does that make sense?

May i suggest a graphical way to represent it instead of a plain list. Maybe on some sort of timeline indicating active players at a given time, also playing with sizes of the 'blobs' for each player representing their ratings over time, where the highest achieved rating is somehow highlighted.

Yes, I thought it's something like that and I can see what you're saying, but that also means I wasn't wrong, or what's the difference between 2 RTSLs and 1 MoA and 1 KotD - there are tournaments all the time, there are way more tournaments going on than RTSL's seasons every year and not all players play in all of them, so what makes a tournament valid?

That's what I was pointing out, that maybe measuring someone's success by how many tournaments he has won could be flawed, because that opens up the can of quite juicy and fat worms what is supposed to be considered a relevant tournament, which was already a discussion recently and continues to be and everyone and their dog/cat has their own opinion (well maybe not cat, they don't give a damn about anything) - is a tournament without Viper relevant? Is a tournament like Nations Cup that is not about the absolute top teams relevant? You see where this is going, and this is what I was chiefly pointing out.

Ergo, reiterating on what I posted before, legendary status shouldn't be bound just by statistics. True Legend is something exactly above mundane statistics. And it also means that just winning several RTSLs doesn't have to make you a Legend. It certainly should take more.

RiuT should be known most for his incredibly strong Arabia play, though he could play any map. He is one of a dying breed, as he liked full feudal wars with many scouts and archers, which a lot didn't do -- very well to add. And RiuT was exceptional at it, a true feudal warlord. Build order for it was steel solid, combined with his famous scout control (has anyone forgotten when DreaIVIs made 7 spears vs 3 scouts and said it's because those 3 scouts were RiuT scouts?). Not only that, but he was the fastest player alive. Entertaining play as well, as he often played with virtually no walls when he did this style of play. - Rayne​

But i think it would be nice to add them if they have one or more.

It's a draft, I didn't care too much. I don't think "semiactive" will be helpful. To keep it simple makes it easier to keep it updated. But for the sake of the argument: 123hunter above mentioned to define "inactive" as "not participating in a major tournament for 1 year" - I guess RiuT is still active in this sense (ECL).

Thanks <3 The stuff you mention is exactly what I'm hoping for through the involvement of contributors, it adds the color and legendariness to the "mundane statistics" (quote Black Adder). It wouldn't make sense if I did this by myself, since it would be one-sided, repetitive in style, and here and there I certainly lack in knowledge and insights. And it's a lot of work 11

It's gorgeous. One thing I would add that you mentioned in your first post is a quote from another top player. Of course this is a draft so we can't expect you to have it ready yet. I think getting, for each player, one of their best (in game) friends or closest rival to write a short sentence about them would really add flavour to these portraits.

Yes, a colorful introducing paragraph at the top of the player profile would indeed be a beatiful thing and probably more attractive for less nerdy / new people. I'll add it whenever such a text comes into existence profile by profile, but I don't want to make it a killer criteria. Thanks for the input!
