+1 115 ppl talking about future of aoc... kinda fun.
If you look at other topicks (aofe, 1.0c balance patch) it seems to be the same way (handfull of people having debatest)
Palisade walls are IMO, a little too cost-effective that encourages castling and skipping feudal.Palaside walls are fine, they serve as nothing but a warning and a small sense of security. Stone walls though, are too strong for Feudal Age.
There is already a very good balance mod made.

I wrote in 1st post. It should be mandatory.
Imagine what in starcraft 2 pathches would be an option. Like 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, etc.
Everyone would play 2.0. Even if 2.1 in all ways better. Why? Because ppl are lazy, and they won't install another one, if they don't have to.
+1 do it already! and please dont just type in the link of the patch made from carlos and mendi.. i dont think that someone will play it.. it drives people out of their comfort zone ALOT! making slight changes week per week could work! The discussion is going out of hand. I feel its a very important topic.
Does Blizzard/Icefrog take a poll everytime it makes a new map? No. Because everyone will be against change, everytime.
Since it is up to us now to make the change, we need a team, of not more than 3-4 old and experienced players. Discuss, make a change, and give it to us to test. Then organise a tournament on the new map and let the experts play. Let us see the new tactics being evolved. No more crossbowmen in castle, let us see some LS, knights, camels even!
I and everyone here are forever in gratitude to you Voobly for keeping the game alive. Could you try to take it one step forward?
Well what if we created a user-balance patch at first. Get together a panel of 10 active 2k+ players and each week allow them to make 2-3 changes. The changes can be done to "fix" one issue at a time and at the end of the week the panel of players all must vote on each change made. If the change is 60% or more popular then it can go into the official balance patch.
Meanwhile an open debate about the weekly topic can take place and people can discuss it in detail.
I think make 2-3 changes per month would be more than enough. Slowly, steadily.
Something like this is what we really need, who is interested in being on the panel? I'm definitely not going to just start mandating changes, we get enough backlash as it is when we change simple things like client theme colors
The changes also need to take into account DM, I remember for AoFE there were at least a few DM experts that had concerns.
