One of us was admin in a major tournament.Besides, are you 2k4? No? Then get ****ed random. Your opinion isn't welcome here.
Btw, I must say I havent seen a single thread here actually asking for additional admins. Maybe tournament hosts do actively seek new admins, but I have surely missed it. So maybe a bit more advertising might help if it really is mainly a question of too few admins?
Anyway, personally as a noob I always enjoyed playing free signup tournaments when they used to be a thing. And there were usually so many players that you didnt really often face someone 500 elo above you. Nowadays it might not work so well, as so many ppl are watching streams instead of playing themselves, but whatever.
More admins means more admin fees to pay, which in turn means smaller prize pool for the players.

This all comes down to a balance between giving people a chance to participate and keeping the admin work reasonable. Keeping the 32 top signups is the most reasonable way to do so to keep the qualifier open enough for top players while not bloating the qualifiers with players who would have no shot of qualifying anyway.
There is absolutely no point in giving players in the 100s rank a spot in the qualifiers, they would have no chance to get into the main event.
And again, if you are not happy with the current system, you are free to vote against. Decide not to support it in any way, do not watch. You are free to volunteer for admin work in future events. Be the change you want to be in the world.
Ahh and this makes you special enough that your opinion matters but not any other 'random'? Good to know. One of us was admin in a major tournament.
No, I do not believe it is the most reasonable way. NOt by a long short. In any way shape or form. This all comes down to a balance between giving people a chance to participate and keeping the admin work reasonable. Why should that ever matter? And who is to preclude someone improving as the tourney goes on, getting a major upset? Who died and made you the authority on everything that is possible in life. There is absolutely no point in giving players in the 100s rank a spot in the qualifiers, they would have no chance to get into the main event.
Mhmm if they put out a post asking for people to apply to Admin, I and other I am sure would consider it.And again, if you are not happy with the current system, you are free to vote against. Absolutely agreed. Those 12+ players aren’t dumb to think they will destroy everyone and win the tournament, they have almost no chance to get any prize money. They know if they get in, they’d likely get steamrolled. Yet they want to participate. OK, we’ll have 4 week qualification instead of 2 weeks, many R1/R2 games will be very one sided. Is it that important? None forces you to watch, none is forced to stream those games. Why many players keep playing and improving? Because they have some top player idols and they want to be better than them one day. So give them the chance to play against the very best, though it’s 2* 20 min games, it’s an incredible experience, I still have a special feeling whenever I play any top 10 player, any legend of the game I’ve watched and followed for years. There's a case to be made for doing larger/ open qualifications in my opinion. Sure you can take a number of players based on ladder performance and advance them automatically, but having a large qualification allows many players the chance to experience a tournament and become invested in it. Sure, they won't win, but it's more inclusive and you never know when you might see an upset somewhere along the lines.

Maybe viewership shouldn't be the most important consideration for games in the early rounds of every tournament?for games that will barely have any viewers anyway
One more point: People like to speak about “the biggest” tournaments, the “majors” and they mention usually prizepool and viewer numbers. MoA3 had over 100 players, 500 USD prizepool, Masters of Arabia was planned for 128 players and then even 256 spots weren’t enough in the end, I actually don’t recall any prizepool and almost no promotion, but those were the most hyped 1v1 tournaments in the last decade and I remember them more than tourneys like NAC or HC. Both tournaments were happening, when we definitely didn’t have as golden era as we have now in so many terms. AoE as any game mainly need players motivated to play and improve, it’s way more important than viewers, prizepool, admins or casters.
Question is, do the benefits of increment of hype of X players cover the extra Y admin work? This is a good point. If more and more people get some personal attachment to the tournament and actually have to read the rules and try the maps etc, it always increases the hype of the tournament. Even if you lose your own game to some guy in 20 minutes, you might want to watch how far that guy gets in the tournament and so on.
I think this is the most valid complaint. With the lack of moderation on DE, cancerous behavior can't be punished. I would say that you should be given a pass in these cases if you can give evidence of objectively bad behavior from the opponent in previous recorded games.

Like Carlini pointed, the rule is only in place for the people who actually have a shot at taking part in the tourneys robo is administrating, i.e. 2k3 voobly/1k8-ish DE (hard to tell where the cut-off for HC3 will be since there are tons of new exciting sign-ups every week).I hope this is a joke, otherwise in the actual state of the Game and MM is a stupid rule.
Well, they moderate it in a way you would be surprised of:
People complain about a cheater in AoE3:
PLEASE BAN: [redacted] from AoE3
Today this happened, I had seen him do this previously but decided to record it: [redacted] MORE Evidence [redacted] Further evidence japanlamer is toxic and also cheats: [redacted] Even more: [redacted] (sorry it’s grainy, not my video) Please replace ‘DOT’ with . as I can only post two...forums.ageofempires.com
Post get redacted, every note about the cheater gets removed and in the end:
"Hey XXX, I redacted your post because it’s a cheating accusation which is breaking the forums’ code of conduct."
:-D
