A few things I wanted to comment on:
1. Yes, Voobly has profited from stuff like Userpatch, WK and Aoe2Tools. That doesn't mean they're leeching off that. First of all, the decision to do the voluntary work remains with the volunteers. Secondly, it's not there was no work of their own. Voobly has their own mod managing system, they've worked on anticheat stuff, they have spec servers, etc.
Development has been slow in the last years and that's disappointing but when some people say it's "just" a platform that doesn't do it justice imo.
2. There are legal issues to think of. E.g. the pg-13 thing for streams definitely sounds to me like they're afraid of some shenanigans there with voobly (a platform also for ppl under 18) being associated with 18+ topics. And it might look overly paranoid but who here is comfortable making that judgement when they're the one responsible?
3. As mentioned by Memb, it's also just a matter of time. Elusive hasn't had time to work on Voobly for quite a while. Chris also doesn't have a lot of time to spare (I think the guy hasn't played a game of Age in years yet he's still working on Voobly in all that time.) That's one of the fundamental issues really. It would be great if there was someone to help with this but at the same time, they obviously can't just delegate this to any random who says they have free time.
So yes, this was obviously not handled well. And I definitely wish Voobly would be more open about stuff like this and make some effort to find help. But some of the criticisms here exaggerate things to a ridiculous level.
