Long story short, Battle Elephants in WK are broken. Not just balance wise, but also technically broken, and this might explain how OP they feel.
Yesterday we were made aware of a bug that has been affecting WK from the very beginning.
Basically, on HD Battle Elephants do splash damage like War Elephants do, meaning they deal 50% damage to all non targeted units within their blast radius. This is the case on HD, but not on WK. Since the beginning of WK about a year ago, Battle Elephants have been dealing 100% damage with their splash attack.
In practice, it basically doubles their overall damage output in melee fights. Any non directly targeted FU halb vs a FU Khmer Elite Battle Elephant takes the full 20 damage in WK, while it should be 10 on HD. This has dramatic effects on the outcome of fights. Just a quick test shows that two knights die to a battle elephant on WK while one survives on HD. In another test, 12 knights against 5 battle eles, knights comfortably win with 7 remaining (HD) vs battle eles winning with 2 left (WK).
Of course scripter has already provided a fix for this unfortunate bug, and WK should be ready to update when needed. Since it has such a big effect on the balance, the fix won't be rolled out until the end of the current ECL stage, because it would be unfair to impose on players such a change without time to prepare and adapt.
So here it goes, I wish this bug didn't exist or had been fixed sooner. It will take some time to get used to the new Battle Elephants, and it goes without saying that balance opinions on them will need to be reconsidered.
