Because Matchmaking forces us to alt f4, give us maps we dont want to play, enemies which stats we cant see of, and matchmaking error -4. Condluding that the Voobly Lobby system was the bestWhy are we talking about Voobly in a post about matchmaking? Voobly had no matchmaking.
Voobly very much did have matchmaking, just as essentially any MP game does; the one exception being maybe games where you can only play with your friends(?), since then the game itself has no involvement in your being "matched" with other playersWhy are we talking about Voobly in a post about matchmaking? Voobly had no matchmaking.
Just checked my match history, that only happened once in my last 84 TGs.
Yeah, but yesterday for instance you also got matched against a French stack 4 times in a row with similar ratings as yours. So, the question is, on average, how many games do you get with very awkward rating differences (as the 2300 team you faced) in comparison to the amount of games where you face teams that are close to you? And you're also at the top of the ladder which makes it more difficult to match you with people exactly your rate.
Sure the system could always be improved but honestly I think it works really well, especially at medium level.
Team games back on Voobly where you were 16-17xx 1v1 were horrible. Find one of the few lobbies that host Arabia, wait 45 minutes til it fills up, play in 600 ping cuz you have one guy from Mexico, one guy from China and one guy from Australia. Sure once you get that lobby you might get several games (provided not everyone leaves after the game), but it takes ages to set up.
On DE you get on voice chat with your mates and start queuing, less than ten minutes later you have a game at your level. I think there is a lot of people who have improved greatly thanks to the DE team game matchmaking.
I mostly play 1v1 so I don't actually care if they change anything about TG.The pool of map pool idea might work for 1v1, but i don't think TG has enough concurrent players for that many splits
This is what you think. Personally I prefer DE matchmaking way more than the old lobby sistemCondluding that the Voobly Lobby system was the best
No, we played on Voobly because this was the best platform to play performance wise, the network infrastructure was great, and the lobby system was by far the best we had available (compared to HD and Gameranger for instance). That does not mean lobby is better than matchmaking. There was no matchmaking available, we played lobby because it's all we had. This is peak AoC, this is what 10 years on a platform resulted in. A lobby system, where everyone agreed that this was the best. The only reason it failed on HD because HD was HD (and i dont even need to go into detail with that), that failure caused way fewer players, and therefore it had the problem Voobly will soon have now
So here are the two main reasons I can think of in favor of matchmaking over lobby system:In all fairness, when comparing matchmaking models of two platforms you probably need to do it out of the context of technical problems that one platform might have had.
Voobly's TGs were bad because of lack of players and a shitton of technical difficulties like lag, fast proxy and such, sure. But what do you think would happen if Voobly's lobbies were somehow transplanted onto DE where there is like 20 times more players and a nearly no lag environment?

Currently sitting at 2k5~2k6, not great, but still makes me top 1.5% on the ladder. So theoretically, that doesnt happen often to most of the players. And whats ur rating? It happens 2/3 games for us if u check our m. History.
I mean custom lobby is still needed when a group of friends want to have their own civil wars.I actually laughed hard reading this. Imagine asking for lobby systems in 2020 lol
+1All of this would en up in queue times be twice or thrice as long...
Thx god the devs are smarter than this.
Yeah I used to be VERY against the TG match-making... but once they cleaned up their shitty code that was always making very unfair matches, the matchmaking itself is miles better than waiting for twenty minutes in a voobly lobby, wanting to play with friends, and then someone typing !ratings (which they could have done before the 14), saying "NO FMT!" and then walking out.I think the vast majority of people think the matchmaking is ok and probably better than whatever we had before.
There are people who can't be satisfied and these will keep crying no matter what (e.g. Deathcounter).
But you can also enjoy the system while being mindful of some of its aspects and criticism in that respect is not all negative, but aiming at improving it further, and I think that's the approach the majority of people would find themselves adopting.

Now if only the DE matchmaking and drops (on top of alt F4 players) would improve... the tg matchmaking would be even better.
Definitely DE could improve the lobby system from the get-go by just returning players to the lobby at the end of the game, enabling quick rematches.
