1) AFAIK change in TG elo depends on opponent teams highest elo player => Gain > Loss => InflationSomething is really off about how ratings are calculated in tg, since (iirc) the median rating is around 1300, when it should be around 1000, if thats the starting rate.
What I am thinking now is when you start playing 1v1 or TGs the system is using as starting point your other ratings you may have already. Perhaps it used my 1v1 rating when I started playing TGs later and now it used my friends TGs rating as starting point for his 1v1 games.
You speak from experience? :DTG rating is broken, you lose very few points compared to how many you win.
Like loosing a 2vs2 vs a couple 600~ points behind you only makes you lose 22 points.
You speak from experience? :D
I am not sure about this, but could it be that there are a lot of people doing less than 10 games, loosing a lot (because of that dont do more than 10 games). So they give ELO to other players but dont show up in ladder? So IF they would be calculated in the ELO could still be 100 average.Something is really off about how ratings are calculated in tg, since (iirc) the median rating is around 1300, when it should be around 1000, if thats the starting rate.
DE ladder is absolute cancer to be looked at and nothing more than a joke.
I wont call them absolute cancer. I really like DE ladder. It seems to perform much better then Voobly. This maybe has to do with my own level. I was playing in NPL (13xx). In DE my rating is 10xx. Match making in DE result in matches with much more quality. Rating in NPL dont make any sense at all. In DE they pretty much do. Also in Voobly there is a big skill gap between NPL and MS. In DE there is no such gap. Which is much better. If i look back now we have DE i wonder why on earth there is NPL ladder and MS ladder. Just make it into one ladder.
Only thing i noticed is this:
Both seems pretty much fixable by the devs. So yeah, it can be improved. No, i wont call the ranking absolute cancer.
- It seems like all ratings are connected for some reason. If you have a high rating in RM 1v1 and start playing some team games (and win most of them) your rating will be sky high like your 1v1 rating. It is not only between 1v1 and team games but also between RM and DM. This connection seems pretty strange and lead to some weird results. Most of the weird things above are because of this connection between all ratings.
- Something weird with teamgames were elo is determined by highest players like described above.
there is NPL in voobly because casuals like you find a T90 video, get nostalgic and they would go play in voobly. they would join MS and get clapped so hard they leave after a few games with zero desire to pick up back the game ever again (this is if they manage to get a game due to violent 0 gamers kicking policy (you can thank smurfs for this one)).
to be fair the 1v1 DE matchmaking seems to work okayish but the TG is the cancer aforementioned.
Well, the average skill on DE is significantly lower than it ever was on Voobly. A random newcomer can hit "Find match" with his default 1v1 rate on DE and he'd likely find a game against someone of similar level. This would be hard to accomplish on Voobly. Why does DE hasnt that issue? There is one ranking for casuals and try hards. Everyone plays together and it is working fine.
(1) Its way easier to create alt accounts on vooblyWhy does DE hasnt that issue? There is one ranking for casuals and try hards. Everyone plays together and it is working fine.
I see a completely different issue with the two lobbies. There will be a point you are too good for NPL. At that stage you still to bad for MS. There is a big skill gap. Players leave becuase of that gap.
Also ratings in NPL are a joke. Ratings doesnt say anything about someone level. DE doesnt have this issues.
Actually you can do it through aoe2.net, you cant check the game stats thoWell, the average skill on DE is significantly lower than it ever was on Voobly. I'm not sure what problems of NPL you're specifically referring to but DE does have lots of issues. The ratings are extremely inconsistent, even around the average ELO. It is much more frequent, compared to how it was back on Voobly, that someone's rating fluctuates by upwards of 120+ ELO over a course of ~~10 games. I don't recall this ever being a problem on Voobly and, again, something that IMO was Voobly's biggest strength: you could always check a guy's match and ELO history to see his 'real' skill.
But to be fair, I do gerneally enjoy DE's 1v1 matchmaking, maybe aside from how it allows players to pick civ.
Ye but if the goal is to play with people of similar skill when you use matchmaking then aoe2.net won't help you. Back on Voobly you could be picky when choosing opponents(which is both good and bad thing), on DE you can'tActually you can do it through aoe2.net, you cant check the game stats tho
