Re: Use of hotkey scripts/macro's to improve micro managemen
I agree that an RTS game should be about choosing strategies and making the right decisions at the right time, but of course that's not up to us. Micromanagement has always been a major part of AoE and apparently many people love to excel in that aspect. Nothing wrong with that. In fact I really enjoy watching fancy micro fights.
The lack of a command stack also doesn't pose any problems for the use of keyboard macro's, as Windows uses a command buffer. You can for instance set a different size of the keyboard buffer in the Windows registry.
But using scripts is not about being able to press more keys than you would be able to do manually. It's about efficiency, coordination and preventing mistakes, so you have more time to focus on other parts of the game, even if your fingers would be able to keep up (which I doubt if CTRL or SHIFT commands have to be used).
I don't get the fuzz regarding new features like the MQ either. It only makes the game more playable and takes nothing away from the strategic aspect of the game. It just fixes some of the minor annoyances the original game brought with it. I guess some people will always be opposed to changes, even if these are nice improvements.
