I don't think Hera should be ranked higher than Mbl,Tim,Tatoh,Jordan lol
That tourney was on 2012 before Viper extreme dominance. Yes Viper was n1 since march or around but still not what he became. That tourney wasn't even money prized if i'm right. Maybe it got a bit over hyped because there were no 1vs1 tourneys that year. The pool prize was something like a 2 years platinium voobly account and a banner. Most top players (top 5 as Riut and Daut for example) skipped it. The only 2.3k+ at that moment to sign were Viper Tim and Jordan. I wouldn't give it much value than some ladder games.I remember that tourney very well. Those were the times Viper and Jordan play daily and claiming the crown after Daut. They were really sharp, fast and eager to prove they are the best at that time. There were not much 1v1 tournies those times (maybe even none) and that “voobly tourney with small price” was the biggest event. Viper and jordy were not chill and cool as much as today. They were liitle bit cocky flaming Tim because he walls 11. If I remember correctly after Tim beat Jordan in semis, jordan said gg well walled. ( I remember Jordans trash talk him in game chat as well because he makes sneak attacks). Finals were really tense as well. Tims strategy was clear cut, wall, make kts, raid, heal, raid again. Still he did it so good Viper even though he knews he couldnt mange to beat him.
Not sure Bo21 jordan vs daut was after that or not but not getting picked to challenge for nr1 vs Daut did also kept Viper away from shining. Those days he just couldnt find an area to show he is the number 1. Also all the discussions about how he did not win any single tourney yet, rating does not mean much blabla... That wining against prime viper and jordan was really something special I think and can match Liereyys Kotd3 win in my opinion.

The level looks higher because they learned from those who came before them. Also the setups are way better and the game has been dumbed down and made much easier. There is a recency bias for sure, but at the same time I don't think it can be disputed that the current level of play nowadays is the highest it has ever been. That's the issue when doing "all-times"' lists, as you can only really compare players to their contemporaries.
If you take KotD3 Liereyy and put him in a time machine so he can play Tim's Master of Arabia, he might win the tournament without losing a game.

That also means that Hera made it to the top level in a shorter amount of time than TaToH and MbL, which in turn also kinda makes Hera... better than them two?!?There are guys that shouldn't be ranked that high cause they only played the game in pro level for like one year or two max, the money they have got is also missleading, since they are adding tg tournament money that was split into a lot of players, slam has never won anything in 1x1 but in tg he has earned a lot, that is an example of how the cash they have earned doesn't say anything accurate.
Kkab never was a top player but he is a legendary sensei.
Also hera can't be ranked higher than tatoh or mbl, they are about the same level with the difference that tatoh and mbl have been in top level for more years than him.
hera was a 2.4k player before even tatoh was playing on voobly and last year he has been playing non stop, only mbl plays the same, while tatoh last year wasn't really active like the previous year, so make no mistake hera has his years playing the game and his achivements are close to mbl and tatoh who have also beaten the snake in 1x1 tournaments. That also means that Hera made it to the top level in a shorter amount of time than TaToH and MbL, which in turn also kinda makes Hera... better than them two?!?
I did remember TaToH looong ramblings and slow-but-steady progression on the Voobly 1v1 ladder and in tournaments results, way before he was in TyRanT
(yep, he was in TyRanT lol. For the newcomers, TyRanT was the ancestor of Secret, and Secret the ancestor of GL). I was one of his biggest fanbois back then.
MbL had a similar progression than Hera to be honest, he went very good very fast.
I remember him around 2015 (he was 20-21 back then) kicking miguel ass off on balance patch tourney (varied map pool), going full berserks vs miguel Hun Paladins.
Yeah. Hera is such a well-rounded player, not flashy nor showy, just very very good at every aspect of the game (RM-wise at least).hera was a 2.4k player before even tatoh was playing on voobly and last year he has been playing non stop, only mbl plays the same, while tatoh last year wasn't really active like the previous year, so make no mistake hera has his years playing the game and his achivements are close to mbl and tatoh who have also beaten the snake in 1x1 tournaments.
Well they were getting paid a high salary to play the game, heck they even had to quit their jobs to play only aoe, as Chris said back then there was no way for other adults to compete under those circumstances, after seeing capoch getting back to 2300(DE) in less than 3 months, what grunt and halen did even koven is not an impressive result they barely got 2100 in 1x1 voobly and getting paid for it, can't imagine how many players could perform extremely well under those circumstances. The Korean guys like Kkab, grunt, halen etc should never be doubted again after what they pulled off in WCL7. Taking into consideration how long they had been away from the game, to come back and win a major TG tournament like that is arguably the most impressive competitive achievement of the last decade.
Also sometimes I feel like these pre 2005 guys are being given a bit too much credit...
So I assume in the top 5 there will be chris daut Viper but i really wonder who the other 2 are in the top 5
I agree with the pioneers getting higher recognition, one of the qualifications is said to be influence, what more influential than actually shaping the meta, creating and developing strategies without a frame of reference... the strategies we see everyday were created at some point, and those are the guys responsible for them
The sheriff is not there and he invented or did first every single strategy you see now.I agree with the pioneers getting higher recognition, one of the qualifications is said to be influence, what more influential than actually shaping the meta, creating and developing strategies without a frame of reference... the strategies we see everyday were created at some point, and those are the guys responsible for them
