So this is my first ever post on this lovely forum - how exciting!
I know the majority of you guys, and may I say, LOVE the AOE community - it's awesome.
However, I had to comment on this thread, simply as judging by the continuation of things, it's going around in circles.
In my honest opinion, if someone wants to put on / sponsor a showmatch at a random time to get some games going, that's completely their choice - I've offered on many occasions completely sporadically a showmatch prizepool, not just to support the players, but to actually get some games going!
Yes whilst we're seeing these players play on and off on a weekly basis, the element of having a little pot of money to win for putting in that extra 'try hard mode' makes it even more exciting for the viewers - and for anyone who misses it, you can always catch the VODS at a later date. If players want to get the chance to partake in showmatches, I would say it's up to them to get themselves known - the reason the big boys get the showmatches to them is not only due to them being great players, but they are an active member of the community (I see streaming as a huge part of adding value to the community). Whilst there are over 160 2k+ players, unless you're either playing at that level or seeing them play vs a streamer, I would assume it's quite unlikely for a standard viewer to know who they are?
Best as always,
Marvino
