First of all: I don't believe this is the wrong forum to post this thread; in case it should be, feel free to move it anywhere else.
I know most people don't want any balance changes whatsoever; however, I feel like people who play competitive 1v1s on open land maps get frustrated quickly when they go random and get Teutons in particular.
We all know there are many reasons for that, mostly that they are percepted to be too 'slow'; and I don't want to revolutionalize the civ. I just came up with a somewhat creative idea which at least would make the Dark Age less generic for the Teuts.
My initial idea is to give Teutons a watch dog / German shepherd from the start of the game (basically the wolf unit [25 hp; 3 melee atk (possibly only 2?); 0/0 armor; possibly 2-4 LoS?]), and therefore remove either the +100% monk heal range or something else. I imagine players would use the dog unit to scout quicklier, lure deer with the dog while scouting the enemy base with the scout cavalry or vice versa, and take the dog unit along with a militia drush/MaA rush to get a small advantage in the first skirmish.
I imagine this could become a popular bonus among both competitive and casual players, since it would add something that hasn't been existing in the game before, except for MegaRandom games possibly, and which wouldn't be OP at all. + Many people like dogs.
What do you think?
