RMS Cup 2 announcement

Hello everyone! Nova, Ornlu and myself are super happy to present you the second edition of RMS Cup. RMS Cup 2 will carry the legacy of the first edition, Masters of RMS, that happened in 2020. In this edition, 10 maps will be selected in the biggest map contest ever held for an Age of Empires 2 tournament.

The creativity of map makers is going to be put in the limelight for the whole duration of the event. Only original maps from the map contest will feature in the tournament, to celebrate the always inventive diversity of our game’s map making community. Our beloved game keeps reinventing itself in big part thanks to constant new incredible and fresh maps they’ve be crafting meticulously again and again for more than 20 years.

Players will then battle on those maps during the tournament, that will happen from the 2nd of July (first day of qualifiers) to the 31st of July (Bo9 grand final).

After 2 qualifiers featuring 64 players each, the main event will feature 16 players and will start on the 16th of July for 3 full weekends of crisp gameplay. See you on the battlefield!

Format and calendar
2-3 July First qualifier
9-10 July Second qualifier

16-17 July Main event, round of 16 first game
22-23-24 July Main event, round of 16 winner bracket, loser bracket and decider games
29-30-31 July Main event, quarter finals, semi finals and final

Prize Pool
The event is sponsored by Microsoft.

Map Contest
The map contest will have a total prize pool of $4000, each of the 10 maps selected to be featured in the event will grant its creator $400.

Tournament
The tournament will have a total prize pool of $20000.
First place gets $6.000
Second place gets $3.000
3rd-4th place get $1.500 each
5th-8th place get $800 each
9th-12th place get $500 each
13th-16th place get $300 each
$1600 to be shared between all participants who played in the round of 16 of either qualifier but didn’t qualify for the main event.

On top of that, RMS Cup 2 will also grant 2 spots to Red Bull Wololo: Legacy to the best 2 performing players of the tournament that aren’t already invited to the Red Bull Wololo event.

The whole event will be broadcasted on the 3 official channels of the hosts:

I think starting like 2 h earlier could have been good.
But assuming it takes 5-6 h (can always be more), I don't think 60 % of America and most of Europe are asleep at 21 GMT.
If you assume that 60 % of the audience is at least GMT+3, maybe, but even a 16 GMT start would have been 12 am for China and 11 pm for Vietnam, assuming those countries have the largest audience in that category. So I would say Sunday finals are always bad for a good portion of viewers.

I know. That's why I said that 21 GMT is around halfway which they said would be the time 60 % would be asleep.

 

Tatoh has been my favourite player to watch recently. So good. Sure we were all surprised to see him destroy Viper and Hera. Yo is playing really well though - hope it's not a 5-0!

Edit: Ok, well that was a little bit sad. Not sure what happened there. 4am and Yo plays like that lol.

It was an enjoyable tournament. Thanks to everyone who was involved especially the organizers and admins.
Congratulations to Mr. Yo for winning it all. A bit sad for Tatoh overall. Beating Viper and Hera to lose 5:0 in the final was a bit rough. Games were pretty close though, although I felt Yo always was in control.
Would watch a third edition for sure. Cheers to the map creators providing interesting maps

 

This is most definitely wrong but I still like to think Tatoh went into epic party mode after beating Viper and Hera... so he had to play against Yo with a huge hangover and not caring that much anymore. That could kinda explain the 5-0.

On a more serious note, congrats to the hosts and admins. I'd love to see this tournament coming back again for the third edition <3

This is most definitely wrong but I still like to think Tatoh went into epic party mode after beating Viper and Hera... so he had to play against Yo with a huge hangover and not caring that much anymore. That could kinda explain the 5-0.

Yes, this is most definitely wrong. And also most definitely stupid.

Imo Tatoh played very well. All 5 games were hard fought. It's not like Tatoh was making silly mistakes all over that you can claim he was hungover. Yo was just prepared very well and one step ahead on all occasions.

Also he is the second player with more 1vs1 S Tier wins. Definitely underrated since many seems to see him as a clear 4th.
