Hello everyone! Nova, Ornlu and myself are super happy to present you the second edition of RMS Cup. RMS Cup 2 will carry the legacy of the first edition, Masters of RMS, that happened in 2020. In this edition, 10 maps will be selected in the biggest map contest ever held for an Age of Empires 2 tournament.

The creativity of map makers is going to be put in the limelight for the whole duration of the event. Only original maps from the map contest will feature in the tournament, to celebrate the always inventive diversity of our game’s map making community. Our beloved game keeps reinventing itself in big part thanks to constant new incredible and fresh maps they’ve be crafting meticulously again and again for more than 20 years.

Players will then battle on those maps during the tournament, that will happen from the 2nd of July (first day of qualifiers) to the 31st of July (Bo9 grand final).

After 2 qualifiers featuring 64 players each, the main event will feature 16 players and will start on the 16th of July for 3 full weekends of crisp gameplay. See you on the battlefield!

Format and calendar

2-3 July First qualifier
9-10 July Second qualifier

16-17 July Main event, round of 16 first game
22-23-24 July Main event, round of 16 winner bracket, loser bracket and decider games
29-30-31 July Main event, quarter finals, semi finals and final

Prize Pool

The event is sponsored by Microsoft.

Map Contest
The map contest will have a total prize pool of $4000, each of the 10 maps selected to be featured in the event will grant its creator $400.

Tournament
The tournament will have a total prize pool of $20000.
First place gets $6.000
Second place gets $3.000
3rd-4th place get $1.500 each
5th-8th place get $800 each
9th-12th place get $500 each
13th-16th place get $300 each
$1600 to be shared between all participants who played in the round of 16 of either qualifier but didn’t qualify for the main event.

On top of that, RMS Cup 2 will also grant 2 spots to Red Bull Wololo: Legacy to the best 2 performing players of the tournament that aren’t already invited to the Red Bull Wololo event.

The whole event will be broadcasted on the 3 official channels of the hosts:
https://www.twitch.tv/novaaoe
https://www.twitch.tv/OrnLu_AoE
https://www.twitch.tv/multiples_siestes

It will otherwise be entirely open to stream and cast by anyone, granted the few requirements found in the handbook are followed and adhered to.

To read the full handbook including: rules and settings for the map contest, the tournament and the broadcasting requirements; to register to both the map contest and the tournament; to get all the informations regarding the event, discuss the event or ask any question, you can go directly to the official server: https://discord.gg/bD9mABVmms

To start things of, we will be happy to meet you on Wednesday at 19:00 UTC. A $100 play all 5 showmatch sponsored by Nova will take place between JorDan and Sitaux, played on maps from the first edition.

See you soon!

For any administrative matter or enquiry, you can contact on discord:
sieste#6361 (main admin)
Zetnus#6414 (map contest admin)

Is there going to be a 3rd place match?
I ask mostly because it might save confusion if say 1st is someone already invited to RBW and then you have 2nd invited and choosing between 3/4

Might still have issues if all top 4 are already invited or something but that seems unavoidable

A 3rd place match is not planned. If 2 or more players end up in a tie for the last RBW spot, we will discuss on how to proceed, potentially a play off will have to take place.

Nili already confirmed that will be necessary.

Love the fresh breath of new maps, and fantastic news that such prize money is allocated to the purpose too!

Surprised by this S-Tier Tournament, it's not something which could have been expected with the first edition having < 400€ Prizepool.

Also having 2 Spots for RBW Legacy is huge.

Hyped for this Tournament, but I genuinely do wonder why it get's such a huge Support.

Agreed. I can see how it is a good incentive for new maps, but for this to count as a qualifier for RBW is more questionable. Great news regardless, though!

Why would it be questionable?

The prize pool for the map scripting contest ensures the maps produced will be absolutely top notch and competitive. The prize pool for the tournament itself ensures the best players will sign up and take it seriously.

It will be a proper top level tournament.

I'd say this aspect depends more on the judges. I assume they're gonna be good tho. Hopefully something like ornlu, nova, a couple of willing high level players and a couple of active community members.

Personally I'm hoping we get some more standard maps that people will be playing a year from now and not so much gimmicky stuff like holy cup.

100%, but Holy Cup maps were gimmicky because that was the spirit of the tournament. I see no reason here to think we're gonna get dark age monks.

Ornlu, Nova and sieste are judges. Zetnus is contest admin, don't know whether he will judge too. I think if any player wants to volunteer as a judge, they can reach out to them (at least I have always tried to get 2+ good players in my juries).
For other experienced map scripters it will be difficult, because I think everybody who has the time, would rather spend 10-20 h on creating a map to have a chance of having their map in a $20k tournament and winning $400, rather than the same time to go through and discuss 30-50 maps.

Personally I would not mind weak Dark/Feudal Age monks or similar on one map, as this is a unique chance for a unique map, but not on half of the maps.

Let’s just say that I haven’t read the post thorougly enough and am utterly embarrassed at this statement. Consider this message retracted. Think before ypu talk etc

(I didn’t even realize the 6000 was a prize pool for tournament players, and not for the map scripters, who have their own prizes.)

I smell that Chrazini only agreed to take on the big RB tournament, if MS agreed to provide a decent price to his rms community in the near future. Now here we go... #conspiracy
Good luck, rms-scripters

Which tournament would you rather get the support? Seems like a strong team behind it, should be a great tournament and a good tournament to support.

I don't mean that they don't deserve it or that others would deserve it more.

It just seems unusual because usually for a 2nd edition of a Tournament to receive such a huge MS-support you would either expect that the Host (one of them) is a big Streamer, the first Edition was incredibly well received (f.e TwoPools 1) or the Tournament has another sponsor and MS "only" copies that support.

It's great that they support this Tournament, I just wonder why because it doesn't rly stay in line with the usual MS-Support.

RBW needed another high-tier tournament for their qualification spot, and this was the best from the available ones, so MS helped them out.

Rewarding all those map creators with a tourney like this is realy awesome.
They are often forgotten but are an essential key to the life of Age of empires 2. Long live map creators !
Good job admins !

Because tournament prize pools have inflated massively over the last couple of years. There's just more money for this year and clearly this tournament was adjudicated as worthy. The first edition might have been "small" but it ran well and prize pool has a big impact of stream and youtube views. You don't necessarily need a big streamer organising as big streamers will likely cast the games anyway. What you need a is a professional, well run tournament to enable that and these 3 have proven they can do it.

Totally agree. Sometimes is nice to see pro players playing new maps, however really want to see some simple, but nice maps which could be played in ladder too. Currently probably most standard open maps are arabia ofc and after that runestones. Most other maps that get to ladder are bit clowny like golden pit etc which often ends up race of who gets imp first and trebs down other player. Not saying they are bad, is a thing of taste, but I kind of miss more open maps without being clowny. Maybe acropolis comes to my mind. Cenotes is pretty much arabia with some bigger water ponds if I remember correctly. Would count land madness too, although that one is bit too messy for many probably and there aggressive civs excell way more too.
