Below are the results of the 24hours random map contest.
This tournament consisted of three stages where participants had 24 hours to create a random map script that followed specific guidelines. These contests were held on the weekends of 3/4 , 10/11, and 17/18 november 2018.

Each of the maps were tested and graded by a panel of experienced scripters and the maps were graded for the following criteria:
  1. Originality: How original the idea is. A good score is gained by baffling the jury: why did nobody ever think of this before!
  2. Professionality: How solid the map script is. This includes using advanced scripting techniques, that benefit the other categories of the script (tricks to prevent bugs, to add unique visual appeal etc). Professionality also shows in the quality of the code (being fail-proof and well written)
  3. Balance & Playability: We measured both the balance (the script generates fair maps all players have equal chances, and where one can expect the best player to win) and playability (how fun it is to play the map, and how entertaining the matches might be to watch for an audience)
  4. Theme: How well the map fits the challenge, and how well the style of the map is coherent to this challenge. If some requirement that were specified in the challenge are not met, you can expect to score lower in this category.
  5. Visual appeal: The general beauty of the map. Do the different terrains look good together, what objects are used as scenery? An excessive amount of ' eye-candy' object does not necessarily mean a better visual appeal.
So here are all the results:

COMPETITIVE MAP

The theme for this contest was 'Ancient Mysteries' and all participants created beautiful maps fitting very well with this theme. The winning submission was 'Paititi' and was made by Cicero. We are excited to see this map being used in the competitive scene.

COMMUNITY GAMES MAP

The theme for this contest was 'haunted islands' and the maps aimed to create entertaining matches for a 8 player Free for all setting. For this challenge all submissions were really beautiful pieces of art that should definitely create fun and interesting games! The winning submission 'Hallowed Reefs' was made by Chrazini. Congratulations with this well -eserved victory.

ZR MAP
<link to that event>
The theme for this contest was 'city of god' and the restrictions were more complicated and unique: the map had to be a ZR map (consisting of a base layer made in the scenario editor, and a random map script to spawn terrains and objects on this base layer) and on top of that the map had to be designed to be played as King of the Hill but with the monument not in the center. Unfortunately, only 1 participant was brave enough to submit, but he didn't disappoint. Yet again Chrazini won with his map 'Limbo': a beautiful world where players find themselves encircled by cliffs and aim to take a monument situated in a cove in the cliffs in the North corner of the map.
