Hello everyone,
I'm going to host my 2nd custom 1v1 AI tournament in May, this time on Arena. It's open for everyone to encourage all scripters. We've had one Arena tournament in 2022 and I believe it's time for another one. My previous tournament was Arabia, new map template should bring new challenges, solutions and interesting approaches to AIs. You can check previous tournament VODs on aiscripter's Twitch account as well as games that I keep uploading on my YouTube channel.
Some details:
Tournament start date - 3rd of May (this still can change)
Stream dates:
- 3rd of May, 6PM GMT - first day
- next streams will be announced closer to the tournament start
Prince of Arena bracket: https://challonge.com/s0m3nxpt
Duke of Arena bracket: https://challonge.com/18d9dsrk
Game settings:
- Age of Empires 2 DE, The Mountain Royals DLC and older
- 1v1
- Location: Arena
- Map size: Tiny (2 player)
- AI Difficulty: Extreme
- Resources: Standard
- Population: 200
- Game speed: Fast (2.0)
- Victory: Conquest
Entry:
- all AIs are welcome, no matter how strong or complicated they are, as long as you're the scripter
- AI upload time deadline - May 2nd 6AM GMT (this still can change, it's a rough estimate for now) - AI(s) posted on aiscripters forum,
- AI vs HD AI games upload time deadline - May 2nd noon GMT in this topic. Giving bit more time here to avoid last minute adjustments of AIs based on already uploaded AIs/recs,
- seeds - 3 games vs HD AI will need to be played by scripter and replays shared before AI upload time deadline,
- up to 2 AI entries by a scripter,
- Scripters are not going to be able to edit their AIs once tournament starts. The only exception is a bugged AI during games vs HD AI. If an unexpected bug appears and there will be any time left before 4th of May, the scripter will get a chance to fix it. Since it's unsure how much time is going to be left you better test your AI vs HD AI well
Tournament settings:
- streamed on www.twitch.tv/arandi
- double-elimination format with bonus game for AIs that lost their first 2 games in a row. That way we can see all AIs play at least three sets of games,
- if we get enough participants, AIs will play vs HD AI (3 games total, vs Ethiopians, Saracens, Portuguese) to receive their seed. That way we can split the bracket into Duke of Arena and Prince of Arena, just like with PoArabia last year. This time though I will need players to run those games (all 3) and provide me their replays. Running and watching all the qualifier games took me soooooo long last year and I am not really looking forward to doing it ever again. I will roughly check replays to make sure no cheating etc. happened. AIs that aren't able to defeat HD AI are going to the participate in separate, lower "Duke of Arena" bracket. Seeds are going to be based on average AI score divided by HD AI score after the game is over
- final set of games - bo7, quarterfinals and semifinals - bo5, other sets - bo3
- if AI is able to play more than once civ, before the game starts scripter is required to DM me which civ it's supposed to play. This rule is made to encourage scripters to make versatile AIs, giving them civ pick advantage over their opponent. If both AIs are able to play more than one civ, we'll end up having blind picks
- scripters can choose civilisations for games vs HD AI if AI is able to play more than one civ,
- scripter is allowed to pick the same civ as many times as desired. There is no need to play different civs even if AI can do so,
- it is forbidden to cheat in any way, for example using 'cc' commands, controlling enemy units with DUC etc. The only exception - cc-players-unit-type-count with player 0 (gaia).
Just like last time feel free to share your thoughts and ideas that could make this tournament better!
Everyone's welcome, there's no AI that is too weak
