Btw Viper.. you forgot to add in a tournament which system I really liked -> 1st from china viewforum.php?f=161
The point of the system that tournament was set on was that it had two divisions - china and world
After it was down to a division final stage in each division best four players from china and best four players from world met and played the round robin system.
In my opinion this was a really cool system.
If there was any new tournament it can be in a style of BCC but adding that 1st from china DIVISON feature would really work cool i think. Maybe there could even be more divisions this time:
Asia
Europe
USA + Canada
etc.
and 2 (or 3) players from each division would advance to the grand finals.
just a suggestion...
Needing a $ prize as motivation for spending a big amount of time on a 13-14 year old game equals a poor real life? Damn, lots of sad players out there then!
I don't think anyone feels the money is a huge thing if they win a few hundred bucks in a tourney, but the prizes are necessary to know that opponents are giving it their best and actually want to win badly as well. That's where the competetive status is at at the moment. This game is past the time where honor and glory is at stake in an unprized tournament. If you want to see the best play, then there has to be an attractive prize. If not, then the second and third tier is what you will see.
+1, even RVK can hardly get close games from TyRant in WCL. Other teams just fight for the 3rd place because RVK will dominate the rest.
I vote NC because it's not extremely one-sided: Brazil, Canada, Vietnam, China, Mexico are all possible candidates of the Champion. Besides that, Teams like POZ, POJ(halen), Turkey, Germany(Jordan), Norway(Viper), Serbia(Daut) are dark horses that can surprise their fans.
You clearly don't know how things work at the highest level. To reach such a high level, you need to be really competitive. Do you expect Viper to play just to set an example for the other players? Viper is one of the best players now because he wanted to beat the best when they were at their prime. Without the cash prizes, how will Viper know that the other experts are putting in enough effort to be in prime shape? Stop living in the utopia where the best players would be motivated without any significant reward.Needing a $ prize as motivation for spending a big amount of time on a 13-14 year old game equals a poor real life? "Needing" yes. "Getting as a result of" no. I'm glad you and daut as well as others earned cash for this, but that's because people appreciate you and want to gift it to you, it's different from earning it. You mention the 13-14 year old game (which btw I don't see what role the age of the game plays in the argument) like "oh no, poor me"... come on, your motivation should come alone if you play the game...

Indeed, and it's sad that it is this way. That's why I'm telling you , the supposedly "1st", that you could take the lead and show a true example, as if you participate in a tourney then it won't be a "random one". But then again this is just my opinion. My point is that getting money as a reward from turneys is PERFECT, but saying stuff like "no cash, no turney" like you implied before is just a disrespect for all the support of the playerbase, the people that donated on free will and not on request, the forum staff that works here for free, and everyone who's essentially giving their hand in exchange of just making this game better and the community bigger. I don't see how you the proest players are any different from the guys that work their asses off to make tutorial, post recs, organize stuff (eg. voobly). You know, being a bit humble doesn't hurt.
SIGMA, just become 2600 and become a role model for all of us, no one is stopping you!
To be the best in a game you have to practice in a way that makes it very much like a job, and like with any job you need some motivation to go through with it. And, there would be no point with rec posters etc if there were no recs to watch.

So anytime someone criticizes the government you tell them to become president and be a role model? Turd.
i'm sure if AoC tourneys had the same prize pools as sc2 or dota you would mention the huge difference between motivation-driven and money-driven competition. E-sports status brings the game to a completely different level. And I fail to see the point in "money will bring more shape", a lot of unpaid tourneys have great games, paid Daut vs Vip was nowhere near shape. Money isn't a synonym of motivation.
what's the "significant" reward to those who are clearly more helpful than vip towards the community, such as people that post games, organize tourneys etc.?
