Learning how to deal with lag, though minimal lag, will improve your playing. When you notice that, you click early because you just foresaw what was gonna happen. For example:
Usually, when you send a vil to lure boar, you move him/her back to TC after the second arrow hit the boar 'cuz after the second hit, the boar will rarely give up on killing the vil. However, in a lag game, though you move your vil back after the second arrow hits the boar, the villager will start walking back only after the third arrow or even after the fourth arrow. That not only wastes time to bring boar to TC, as he'll probably get hurt before starting to move back and if distance is too far, he'll be killed before garrisioning unless you save him by using scout (if you manage to sucessfully do it in a lag game). So, in a lag game I used to click back after the first arrow hit the boar, because when the second arrow hit it, he is already moving back as the command was done seconds ago.
The example above was very notorius. What other situations did you learn how to avoid getting harmed by lag?
