I just saw this was raised in the "Decay System" topic, and I noticed today when I logged on that there were more people in the NPL than in MS. Maybe it's time we redefined "New Player"?
Given that there is almost noone below 1400 in MS, why not make that the new starting rate? Then new players join at the bottom of the pile and work their way up, instead of joining and getting crushed by 1600's for 20 games to get to their actual rate.
People with current ratings of lower than standard npl rates can start on a lower rating.
This would mean that there are many more games for 14-1500s who are too good for npl but struggle to find a game in MS.
I haven't given much thought to this logistically, but I just feel that the system as it currently is, is broken.
Discuss.
