On the other hand, the first post is just a sketchy overview of ideas launched in this topic, not the actual status of the game.
Or in other words: Huns CA will be nerfed. But I don't really give a damn to post the exact numbers in the main post, those things are for the testing team. Not for here. And are not important in this topic anyways. And yes, I'm the one who decides here what's important 8-)Heck, even the first post is only to share ideas and spur debate, not an actual representation of the game nor a status of the current ideas.
If you only knew :lol:And yes, this is going to be a fanpatch at best so why not,
And yes, this is going to be a fanpatch at best so why not, you can decide whats important and whats not.
Im telling that this isnt going to become a forced patch, and thats what i mean when i say fanpatch.
Marian now answer that again? Lol
That is so true, guys.I think we should stop posting all kind of %, Cysion will make the testing with expert players
I think when u consider balance u need to divide civs into 3 catagories:
Top Civs (constantly used)
huns, mongols, aztecs, mayans, vikings
Average Civs (used sometimes)
Brits Japs Spanish Chinese Franks, celts
**** Civs (need a boost)
Korea Turk Saracen
I just gave some examples. My suggestion would be improve the **** ones, and nerf the top ones. Some brainstorming:
Nerf Hun CA bonus, make CA stronger unit in general. I think CA should be viable for civs like saracen and mongols.
Mangudai need to lose their bonus against siege. This is a complete joke. You cant have a unit with 0 counter thats just ridiculous. Even without their siege bonus they will still be the strongest unit in the game. When was the last time u saw a mongols do anything but Mangudai Hussar and SO? They got great champs, arbs, scorps (if im not wrong?), camels etc.. but mangudai beat everything its no point to use other units. Yes they should be strongest choice but not by that much.
Aztec need to lose some starting gold so they aren't top civ in arabia. They're ok in team games, maybe slightly weak. I'd leave them as is other than -25 gold or something (like suggested above..)
Mayans.. make their units slightly more expensive maybe? its so hard to balance a civ with no horses..
Vikings.. like discussed before reduce their galley bonus, OR:
make fires more effective as a way of nerfing vikings. Sometimes u have to think of indirect nerfs.. Maybe give demo ships way bigger damage vs galleys and less vs fires. Water battles are so broken its just pure galleys, if u do this u will see fire demo and galley, this way will make water battle way more entertaining. Be careful small rivers dont turn into pure fire fights..
ps: u can go other way, fires own galleys hard (make them take less damage or some ****) but get owned by demos. Maybe this makes more sense.
Oh and NERF WALLS! Walls should be a decision that u have to make, not something u do every game like we see.
Think of small economy boosts for **** civs, leave average civs alone... Start with conservative changes. I didnt post numbers, just brainstorming of changes that will improve game.
Edit:- Halberdiers for Vikings, definately. It would make the possible to play in Imp.
- Bloodlines for britons would be also nice.
- I would make Plumed archers a bit more expensive.
- I agree with Carlos regarding the walls. Walls are too cheap, they are built too quickly and have too many HP.
- I would remove the mangudai attack bonus against siege. They would still be the same against other units, so stayed a powerful unit.
- Decrease cost of CA for everybody (so other civs will use them too), but Huns bonus should be less. I think removing the bonus completely is not a good idea. They have this bonus because of their history.
Mongols:
- Remove Mangudai Attack bonus against siege weapons. Mangudais are incredibly strong, they kill any units so quickly. They are a solution on their own, which is not good in an RTS game. If you remove this bonus, they will still remain the same monsters killing all the units (even Paladins), but they wont kill Rams so quick, so Mongol Castles could be Rammed. This is totaly hopeless today.
Mayans:
- Increase Plumed archer cost.
- Decrease their attack bonus against EW. Reason: Plumed Archers are OP generally. And you might be able to see some other kind of units in a Mayan war than hundreds of plums. EW is to counter ranged units... But are hopeless against Plums now. Plumed is a solution in himself, which is not good again.
I'm still against the UU idea. Spear (or any other infantry) with ranges (but does not actually shoot anything) is ridiculous (in looks and in uses). How about skirmishers without minimum range or spear thrower ( or normal spearman with blast radius (trample)?
Why is that a problem? Who sais that we have to insist to anythnig in the game? This is a Unique Unit Is the Genoese Crossbowman better? Archer with attack bonus vs Cavalry? Wtf? Who saw it before? I told you even the reason:What is up with spear infantry having bonus agaiinst other infantry?! :S
Cmon, just use your imagination.(Cavalry is obvious, and infantry cannot get even close to a group of those guys in the real world)
The only thing to be careful with is faster units. It works on melee and slower stuff like monks, but faster units that rely on hit and run might have a huge advantage like that.
I have not said that genoese crossbow is better (i didnt even play chivalry) BUT.. attack bonus against cavalry is maybe a bit too much but they were effective against heavy armored units (heavy cavalry was one of the heaviest) ,crossbow was one from few weapons which could penetrate even plate or scale armourWhy is that a problem? Who sais that we have to insist to anythnig in the game? This is a Unique Unit Is the Genoese Crossbowman better? Archer with attack bonus vs Cavalry? Wtf? Who saw it before? I told you even the reason:
If you meant the throwing axeman, that one is inspired by history too :PNot like the running, axe throwing skirmisher without minimum range and with attack bonus vs Cavalry...
As for the Inca UU: I'm still in favor of the idea, I know Marian isn't, but then again, I feel it has potential. Sure me and Marian talk a lot more through PM, but that still doesn't take away that I'm a hard man to convince ^^
