Is "Amazon Tunnel" the worst map ever?

AOE has many maps and not all of them are liked by every one which is normal since the pool is quiet big.
A map like islands can be seen as boring but there can be landing action and interesting games can happen.
In black forest although you wall and then boom but there can be dark age clash or sneaking strategies and also in Imp there can be fights in many points.
These are two examples of maps that many people love, others don't like at all. Arena also has its own meta and fans.
When it comes to amazon tunnel, it's so boring, just wall boom and fight in imp in one point until one team cuts in the side faster.
Do you think amazon tunnel is the worst map or do you like it? Is there are worse maps in the ranked pool? Tell what you think.

I absolutely love the map, but I really like to have some epic big battles in teamgames! Love the trench war idea it gives where you're slowly inching forward to victory or defeat. Of course booming the entire game isn't the most challenging, but if I want fast games I usually play 1v1 games anyway.

I can see your point of view. For me I got tired from such fights in the middle after I played it few times.

I like it more then BF because my experience of BF is that you boom for 35 minutes fight some and then the opposite flank dies/wins and the game is over.

Also you actually get some action in Dark Age and Castle Age when you try to take the middle control.

I have won every game that I went aggressive.

I prefer amazon tunel over salt marsh but michi over amazon tunel.

I only played that map 1 TC and won all of them. Granted I played 3 2v2, and at lowish elo. It is probably harder to be aggressive with more people in. But I don't think you have to boom. I did Organ gun, Arambai+monk and Aztec smush and I pushed ennemies out of the middle in early Castle Age the 3 times, giving us dominance over the relics and extra ressources and ensuring an easy win.

Nice try but its actually the total opposite. I never walled not even once though I help my teammates with my scout. Last game I played I wend fast imp with Turks was able to push but every player reached imp eventually and the game ended up all the same.

I played many times 3v3 and 4v4 but never 2v2. Maybe thats why the gameplay ended up all the same everytime.

I played it a 3 times and won twice with Spanish fast imp into inquistion monks and trebs. Lost once to a guy who also did fast imp but with portugese and i souldnt push fast enaugh, after he got bombard canons out it was a struggle.

there is so little space to explore, that they should not take that little task away from the players. everyone knows the layout, it is not changing like BF. so i do not see the point at all to play the map explored.

Having played Four Lakes more than zero times in 1v1 I think this question is a bit hyperbolic. There are numerous terrible maps, each in their own beautifully unique way, so it does not seem fair to crown one above all the others.

In the case of this specific map, while it is bad, it seems from the comments I am reading that it would be a lot more enjoyable if onager cutting was not a thing and if Imperial Age gameplay was less about spamming units and more about maneuvering large armies (and did not have Portuguese bombard cannons). Fixing these issues would of course require the devs to admit they made mistakes introducing onager cutting (and the Portuguese "civ") and to thoughtfully alter Conscription so it is doubtful any of them will happen.

I guess the all in agression should work really well on lower levels, but I don't think it will end games on a higher level. I think that is mostly becaus at an higher level both teams will make military in castle age (or earlier), and then it is super hard to push, giving how much space there is to fall back.

And at higher level players start to become super good at not dieing, so even after some fights it is likely to end with a long, static imp war.
Either you like it or you don't, guess that is preference.

Yeah I think this is an underrated part of Blackforest. Setting up the trade route is a nice city building minigame as you wait for things to really get going. If they make you have to cut it from trees so much that really does ruin the fun of it.

Middle passage with relics gives a good incentive to play agressive, but like hightower says, its definitely possible to defend and not die, because there are hills that can be camped.

From my limited experience it just gets to a stall game which is decided by lategame strength. And i enjoy those maps once in a while, especially with the tendency now to see every map getting more open and more agressive.

I dont think there is a need for it to be explored, as it is a very straightforward map layout.

It is more that it reminds people of BF which they are used to having explored and like BF there are a lot of parts that can't be easily scouted. It is obnoxious having the black on the minimap when you can't do anything about it.

The worst map I ever played was Nile Delta in the HD Edition when AoAK first was released. Each player was supposed to spawn on their own island with Villagers, build a Dock, a House, and a Transport Ship, then head to one of the sides to build a Lumber Camp, chop Wood, and then build a TC. But HD was so buggy that it spawned me on the same island as an opponent, who happened to be Chinese and would have won the Vil fight had HD not crashed before it was over.
