I think edie's 19, I'm 28. I need to focus on life now. I'll have a job as emt soon while still going to school for paramedic, so no time to play, and I'd rather use my free time reading. I was cutting into my sleep this month to get games in. I gave it my all last year because I knew I could not play this game long-term. I also was not horrific at sc2 so I wasn't totally starting from scratch for rts's. I think it shows because I was able to quickly hit 15xx-16xx last year, but that's still where I am this year. More than that, I still lose to the same things I did last year. So it's not totally about rating, but from a gigantic macro view my rating has been the same, and I think the game just hasn't been clicking for me still for whatever reason.
Maybe that's why you have too much focus on build orders and getting X units out by time Y. SC2 is a relatively simplistic game for the 99%, and people below masters are taught to improve by executing their build well and hitting their benchmarks. Because the level of play is so low for the majority of SC2 players, this is fine there. In AoC you need to understand the idea of reactive macro at a much earlier point relatively on the skill curve.
