ECL Civ Overview for the ECL I hosted by @EscapeAoE
I am hyped a lot. This is why I looked into the civ pools of the 7 different stages. As every stage has its own theme, some civs we will see naturally just once, others I guess due to historical and balance reasons we will see more often. Because each civ has different values for land or water maps and different advantages for 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4, it is hard to make some serious predictions, how often we will see each civ. This should just be an overview. It must not be forgotten, that each stage still contains two events (see the bottom of the overview). If anyone is interested in the excel-sheet, just let me know.
I just want to point out some civ higlights:
1. Italians and Portuguese have the most appearences (5) throughout the whole tournament. Due to the amount of water maps in each stage we will surely see Italians in many games. Portuguese have a gold bonus kicking in in castle age, but are more an allround civ which can contest on any map.
2. Franks, Mongols, Spanish and Turks have 4 appearences each. Mongols still being a high tier civ with reasonable water play will make them appear quite often as well. The attractiveness of Franks, Spanish and Turks is significantly lower imo. Franks might come into play as a scout and knight civ in the 3vs3 and 4vs4 stages more often, same goes for Turks, who have weaker cavalry, but could be seen in water maps more likely than Franks.
3. Britons, Byzantines, Huns and Vikings have 3 appearences. I see Britons, Huns and Vikings as strong allround civs for water and land maps and 1vs1 and team games as well. Byzantines are naturally seen less in tournaments, but they might come into play as well.
4. Most affected by the theme settings are the 3 meso civs Aztecs, Incas and Mayans, which are usally seen quite often in other tournaments, but will only appear in the Americas stage, which has no 1v1 event.
5. Malay and Malians are two other civs, which we saw quite often in recent tournaments, that only have 1 appearence.
EDIT: Forgot about Portuguese (5) and Spanish (4).
