Based on the Euro Rumble tournament (4v4) Cumans are quite powerful and seem to be becoming meta for pocket play (with bans going for the standard candidates - this could/will be influencing the results of course) - they're very dangerous if you cannot punish them for the early boom, which is kind of hard even on Arabia considering how everyone wants to play Arena there with the massive walling, so they're usually well enough protected and can afford that extra time. They tend to get to Castle just a bit later than others, not by much, but with even about 15 more villagers, and get first Imp by a margin thanks to that. If you put them with a faster/stronger flank, you have a good chance for it to work (actually I don't think it has really failed yet in the games I saw, not sure). They're also quite strong on Fortress obviously with quick jump to Feudal.
Maybe players haven't just adapted yet to try and attack them early to try and punish them for the slower play, or do something else, but so far it seems to be working well, and if anything, based on my experience from the tournament, they seem to be getting picked/played that way more often as the tournament progresses. You can check the games as recs on the tournament Discord to see or I'm streaming a good portion of them, with others over the community as well (mostly PoVs, but there were some streams by e.g. TheSniper_AOE, Mr_GriN_, Alfred_The_Great, Odette was doing a match yesterday, just look around).
actually Vinchester used to play cumans as a pocket in Euro Rumble 4v4 tournament. He played very well doing some scouts in feudal and focus on booming. This strategy is powerful if ur opponents dont play agressive. For opponent its easy way to kill a flank guy quickly while cuman pocket cant do enough numbers of scouts to protect him in early part of feudal age. U can push cuman in feudal age as well so easy while u got more army than cuman and his flank. Anyway I would like to see it on highest level when pocket's flanks are very agresive trying to hold him.
Soo... How about going kipchak switch with cuman pocket? (Ofc you cannot go feudal 2tc boom>castle>kipchaks. It takes soooo much time. %99 of the time your flank cannot hold that long)
They are extremely mobile, deal only 4 damage against paladin but pretty much always deal 4 damage against everything (except rams. Kipchak eats rams for breakfast) upgrading to elite does not cost gold, does not have bracer, cost less gold then archer (wood cost is pretty heavy tho)...
Also they are (imo) much much better at raiding then mangudai due to low cost, kiting with 0 frame delay, multiple arrows (multiple arrows much much better at destroying stone walls
