1) This thread is full of people who fail to understand that AoE II HD playerbase consists of SP and MP together, regardless of how bad the game runs on MP, the SP part of the game is times bigger than the MP scene and this is what the DLC is mainly aimed at aswell. Playing online with friends or other players across the world is just a benefit and a secodary matter altogether. MP alone does not make up AoE II, only a minority. The DLC tournament is a good way to showcase the content to the vast majority of SP community, who are mainly hyped about the new units, civilizations, campaigns and every now and then playing with their friends online.
2) Anyone comparing the player numbers of AoE II HD and its growth to Voobly's is a plain ***** who fails to understand that Voobly is MP only and no place tracks the amount of people who use AoC offline across the world. For this you need to somehow acquire statistics of MP community on AoE II HD and to my knowledge they do not exist.
3) The add-ons, balance changes on AoE II HD, plus the expansions are likely never to be accepted universally by the people playing on Voobly, as it is not an ES product. They may try the campaign or play online there, but it would never feel the same as AoC does. The original idea, creativity, content, balance of the game have not stayed the same.
4) The people who play SP will buy the new DLC regardless of how much you tell them not to buy it or not to pre-order it. The MP issues do not affect a player wanting to explore the new civilizations and play the new campaigns.
5) Having the DLC tournament injects money back to the community. Complaining that the money injected was only 3k USD or aimed at the new DLC means you fail to understand that Microsoft actually agreed to fund a tournament related to the game, which means they have reconsidered their stance towards AoE II HD.
If Voobly AoC community should diminish somehow, then it will be by their own hands or some yet to be known third party.
