If you don't want to use movies or shows as an equivalency: No game show on TV is done live. They are always pre-recorded. Even though the outcomes are unknown and the events are spontaneous, it's easier to pre-record them and that's because you're able to iron out any issues with the presentation and make the broadcast as efficient on time as possible. This makes sense because they want to present the cleanest version possible and eliminate any down-time for the audience. If we all had to sit around and wait for 3 hours to watch Jeopardy instead of the 30 minute TV broadcast we get, it'd be a lot less popular.
