Did he issue this apology publicly BEFORE the ruling on him participating in the tournament? No. He is really only concerned with the punishment. Not the act that he committed. Being sad that you are going to jail for a crime is not the same as being sad for act that you have committed.
And why does it matter? Peoples personal moral, ethics, how they feel about a situation etc has nothing to do with it. This issue has more then anything other developed into a discussions about how people FEEL that other should be FEELING about smurfing, its ridicolous and complete bullshit. I don't think an analyze of Dogs and Riuts feelings should be taken into account when deciding a punishment lol.
I'm far more concerned that people actually compare this situation to deadly diseases and serious real life crimes then them actually smurfing. Yes, they were wrong, and yes, they need some kind of punishment to set an example for the future and hopefully preventig smurfing in the future.
Apart from that, I don't care about their morals or ethics as long as they know how to act polite when being a part of the community.
The problem is that there are no guide lines for a situation like this, rules for a tourney apply while a tourney is played, so maybe there should be some universal rules for the future, cause judging them now is in many ways a way to subjective decision. And it terrifies me that people are trying to make a fair judgement based on what they think are good personal ethics, like seriously wtf?
This is not an attack at you Monk, just a mere comment many pages of off-topic bullshit.
You forget why any community have rules in the first place. These rules are written because people feel the need for justice. The need for justice is derived from ethics and morals, the ones you just try to ridicule by saying they are not important. And these ethics and morals are what make a society run more smoothly. Without ethics and morals we would still be climbing trees stealing eachothers banana's and bashing eachothers heads in.
It seems to me you value being polite, but isnt acting fair to others a higher value to you? The emphasis of this case has turned from just a 'smurfcase' into an ethic moral debate because of the smurfers attitude towards it.
Think about it. If dogao replied differently and riut didnt make some bullshit reply on this forum people wouldnt even have written 90% of the posts. Regret after 'the act' does have importance and i am sure you feel the same way but you havent thought it thoroughly through. Also, dont you wonder why there is yet another topic about this case? Who started it. And what were the guys true intentions? 'apoligizes'? Or something else?
You are also a bit exagerating about the examples given to make a point. Robbing a bank is on a whole diffrent level then this case and do you seriously believe people dont get that?
I'm not arguing that rules might be made based on ethics, I just dont think it is fair that how hard you get punished when breaking the rules is based on if your personal ethics agree with the rules or not. In fact, when the rules allready are made, ethics are no longer important to use them. Everyone must follow the rules, you can't also demand they should agree.
I think this is getting way out of hand, two young guys made a mistake, it happens, there is a reason your criminal record gets deleted when you turn 18 (at least hwere I'm from).
We wanted an apology, when we get one, they get flamed for not sincerely meaning it, thats why I mean the whole moralse aspect is bullshit. First of all, its an internet forum, how are we to know what they really mean, or how they really feel, and why does it matter? My point is, give them a punishment for smurfing, regardless of how they feel about smurfing, why they did it etc, it all doesn't matter, only thing that matters is that they broke the rules in BCC.
This is also why I said that we need some general rules that apply for situations like this, made by and for the community. Then player A simply would get a set punishment for breaking rule B, regardless of who they are, where they are from, what cultur, ethics and morale apply to them.
