I have been doing a lot of thinking recently and can't seem to come up with a solution to this problem: how do we get AoC to become a respected e-sport that could draw people to the community from a wider audience?
A few issues prevent the game from becoming a more popular e-sport, namely the length of games, slow pace at first and a few others. However there isn't much we can do to change these things. As a long time AoCer, watching a 40 minute game is pretty standard and something that I am willing to do. For someone new to it watching a 40 minute game could be incredibly tedious and boring and likely to turn them off the idea of getting involved.
I want to know what you think about this, what could be done to turn AoC into a respected e-sport and what possibilities could lay ahead if we were to do so? For the time being I'll be keeping to shorter games for Youtube as the prospect of commentating a 3 hour game is daunting to say the least (no matter how much of an amazing game it might be).
Finally: Editing can be used to help the issue but what should be edited out? I for a while edited the dark age out of my videos but then found that people didn't like it. Honestly, what would you like to see?
Edit: e-sport is becoming big business, it is even attracting sponsors such as Red Bull. See their latest video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBUmlpSVLj8
Edit2: Please don't point out why AoC may not make a good e-sport without explainign what can be done to fix this. We are aware of the issues that we face and we want solutions, there is no such answer as: "it is not possible" :D
