Ever thought that people might hold LANs without having everyone connected to the internet? It seems like an unnecessary obstacle to me, and I can absolutely not see why this requirement should be in place. If you are posting on aoczone then you have internet and can play at local area connection speeds on HD.
I agree that there is no need for hostility. But do you justify not fixing bugs (that weren't in the original version in the first place) by saying that the HD players are only casual players anyway?Regardless, what ZeroEmpires said was very right, HD casts its nets wide and has a wider appeal to casual players, whereas Aoczone focuses heavily on the competitive aspect of the game. So of course you'll have different crowds. It would be nice however if people embraced those differences more, rather than playing them out in hostility.
Not at all, but with limited time and budget, you have to prioritize. Needless to say the HD edition came a loooooooooong way since release. And thanks to the new expansions, we have the chance to keep updating the game for quite some time to come.I agree that there is no need for hostility. The money aspect is part of what annoys me so much as well. Unless you buy it on sale it costs you $20 for a poorly patched game. It costs $10 to just go to Walmart and purchase the older, vastly superior version that works properly within about 5 minutes of installing voobly.players who gave it a try and spent good money (like me) on a game that doesnt even work years after its out AND STILL devs play it down like there wasnt enough time or blah blah blah but you still got your **** expansion out didnt you.
That's what makes them casual, their interest is on other things, not high level play. They like to mess with campaigns, they like to install a mod pack that turns their water into molten lava, they want to get their ass beat by the AI on moderate. There's a different focus, which is why MS is not putting all their resources in appealing to the competitive scene, but is casting their nets wide to appeal to all players (and that's a lot of them, especially compared to the relatively small pool of competitive players).NO, they are ignorant players who either dont know better because they are new to the franchise or the last time they played was 10+ years ago or are not good enough to see how terrible the mechanics of the game are at higher levels in hd.
Very little sadly :/Genuinely interested if any of you guys have any insight on this.
Needless to say, I believe AoE2 has enough expansions now :P
With that being said, there are quite some issues left. Patrol and attack-move can act up more than they should and there's still room for performance on giant/ludikris maps, just to name a few. All of those are reported, but need to be prioritized.
Never say never, but I'm personally not going to pitch another one to MS. :P
Both things you mentioned were on our list of suggestions, but as stated before, it has yet to be seen if they'll make it in (prioritization). Active user moderation I think has the lowest chance to make it in, especially because it's expensive to maintain and running it on a volunteer basis will make it tricky for liability. More forms of passive moderation would be welcome though (point subtraction for continuous dropping for example). As far as stats go, a lot is tracked on Steam and can be pulled from the site through the Steam API (http://aoe2pro.com/player/view/id/76561198088251629)Come on, this is minor stuff. HD lacks the entire backend to support competitive play, and please tell me honestly: Is there _any_ plan to address that? I bet you the answer is: NO. Please post again when there's an HD version of voobly.com on the way and a new spectator mode. Another thing would be an extensive system for moderators, and so on.
That "scroll inertia" is probably the worst feature I have ever seen in a game.[*]Scrolling mechanism is now per-pixel rather than per-tile based (this is different, not necessarily worse as you can select insanely high scrolling speeds). Additionally there's smooth scrolling for the casual crowd (everyone here will want to disable that though :P).
TheViper, for example, is a 2k6 player on voobly and 3k1 player on HD and he thinks voobly is better.THESERPENT, for example, is a 2k3 player on HD and a 1k9 player on voobly and she thinks HD is better
