How is variety bad for the game? There's many people at mid elos who have fun coming up with their own creative strategies and enjoy that more than blindly (and badly) copying what is meta. Of course there's also many people doing only a single thing and not thinking much. There's hordes people grinding meta. There's many people playing custom game modes, and much more. If anything, the variety of things you can do in the game and the variety of people that can enjoy it is what makes it so popular and immortal.I have never played him in the ladder and I actually had fun a few times watching him doing his things, I find him a very creative player. It doesn't change the fact that I find such mechanics bad for the game the moment lots of people at low/mid elo become copycats and repeat it all over the matchmaking.
Dude you literally have guys at 2200+ going FC jannisaries, FC rathas, FC hoang push, FC donjon serjeants play, FC hussite wagons, mongol super laming into FC steppe lancer min 13-14 every single day in the ladder on ARABIA.
Game is absolutely full of gimmicky dumb plays which require 0 eco and very low multitask (hell, sometimes you don't even make vils past 20-21). All it takes is some build order and a super heavy market abuse with 90% of your vils mining gold then exploit units that dont have a counter play if the opponent is in feudal.
The ladder is absolutely infested of guys doing this kind of strategies across all levels from 1k to 2300 or more. So, as long as all of this crap does not get addressed, let the people play the game the way its supposed to be played. Make economy then make whatever unit you want.
Quit crying.
Look, we're being invaded by Reddit!"lots of people at low/mid elo become copycats and repeat it all over the matchmaking"
"How is variety bad for the game?"
.......
...HUH???

My low ELO ass doesn't usually agree with Nicov's takes but this one is true. Once you see your opponents civ on ladder you know exactly what he'll do and it's mostly on how well they execute their plan. I'm tending to study the build orders not for executing them but for predicting exactly what is happening without scouting at all.Dude you literally have guys at 2200+ going FC jannisaries, FC rathas, FC hoang push, FC donjon serjeants play, FC hussite wagons, mongol super laming into FC steppe lancer min 13-14 every single day in the ladder on ARABIA.

The moment they nerf scouts we'll be back to the good old only xbows play with quick castle age timing selling 200 stone. And you'll be the first in line bringing it up and complaining here
im not telling nerf all the scout line, but the feudal scout. The moment they nerf scouts we'll be back to the good old only xbows play with quick castle age timing selling 200 stone. And you'll be the first in line bringing it up and complaining here
I know you're outright against nerfing scouts, but you didn't address any points I made.
Namely:
The scout line has evaded any such nerfs, and in fact has been buffed over time. Changes were made that their attack animation was reduced that effectively resulted in a DPS buff. Pathing is so bad for literally all units that it favors the speedy Scout line. Many civs now have discounts on the upgrades (Burgundians), Hindustanis bonus, Poles being a scout-line factory, Civs with access to Winged Hussar (including Lith!), Turks getting free pierce armor improvements on automatically free-upgraded scout line, while upgrades to Cbow/Arb now cost more/take longer. Many civs faster/earlier eco upgrades now make scouts much more tenable even earlier. After a bunch of whining from certain anti-monk players, Devotion buffs an already insane unit against monks even more so.
You don't see an issue with the power creep of the scout line?
From what I can remember, the only military unit line over the past 3 years or so to take an overall nerf was the Archer line, everything else feels like it has either been buffed or basically remained the same? The scout line has evaded any such nerfs, and in fact has been buffed over time.
What are some examples of this? Seems like civs have generally been losing their dark age bonuses or at least getting them scaled down. The increase of scout usage in recent times I think comes down to the rise of prevalence of deer luring and the increase of hybrid maps usage in tournaments where fishing is another factor. Many civs faster/earlier eco upgrades now make scouts much more tenable even earlier.
Much more so the prevalence of maps which are hoped to be entertaining = action packed in Feudal = open and hard/impossible to wall = Scout maps.increase of hybrid maps usage in tournaments where fishing is another factor.
Most of these issues seem to be tech tree/balance issues rather than an inherent problem with the Scout line. Pathing being bad is not a reason to nerf scouts - it's a reason to fix pathing.

Here, I'll provide you plenty: Viet (Economic upgrades cost no wood and are researched 100% faster -- can you see how Scouts would synergize well with this?), Burg (send your first 7 to food and then you can afford DBA upon making LC, horse collar in dark age), Poles (fulwark), Slavs (farming recently re-increased), Goths(hunt lasts longer now lmfao)..Bengali's (early scout build + 2 vils!).... all have insane newer eco upgrades or tinkering...What are some examples of this? HC5 -- note the presence of Scout line despite the amount of water and/or hybrid maps.Much more so the prevalence of maps which are hoped to be entertaining = action packed in Feudal = open and hard/impossible to wall = Scout maps.
Also, there are basically just 2 units in Feudal + their counters, so what variety do we expect? We see all of these units (even m@a at times) in all sorts of mixes and when Eagles are available, we see them too. Fwiw, we even have a lot of pure Skirm wars on some maps, doesn't really scream that Scouts are mad op.
You know that those stats include a number of games where 1 scout (aka the starting scout) made it into the top 3 units created right?
part of that is that you know what 90% of the players do according to their civ and the exact build order can they will open 11I think 90% of the problem in todays game is the lack of diversity in map generations. Now a days you do not even have to scout the enemy in dark age. In previous versions of this game, scouting your enemy early was especially important.
did u play before DE?part of that is that you know what 90% of the players do according to their civ and the exact build order can they will open 11
