I think that if we keep having 99% of tournaments exclusive to pros and only some small initiatives (that could hardly register as tournaments ) for intermediate level players (1700 - 2k voobly ) then the gap between pros and intermediate level players will grow even more, and no player will be able to break the pro threshold level , and that I think would be the death of the game.
that's why for tournaments I find that Nation cup was the last true tournament. we had fun as casual players and so did the pros and we actually improved a little after it . the player level rose as a whole.
open tournaments for all level improve the whole level of the player base. and actually grow the game for real (active players on voobly ), twitch viewership numbers are good and all, but they don't grow the actual player base more ( I'm talking the competitive players, not the casual viewer or player ).
PS : please no " you can organize your own tournament ... blah blah " answers, we are trying to have a serious discussion about the future of the game.
