WSVG World Championship 2015- Unofficial Write UP |
Here is the unofficial write-up for the Americas stage of the WSVG
In the Americas bracket, competition for the spots in the showdown stage and play-offs, were perhaps the fiercest. Even with AoC legend Chris choosing not to sign up due to an inability to make it to the Maldives at the scheduled time, the competition in America, with several TyRanT and Wolfpack players, dominated by Brazil, Argentina and Canada, was fierce. One of the absolute favorites in America was TyRanT Warlords player RiuT, who had the top seed in the first American bracket. As a top rated player, RiuT received a bye in the first round, and proceeded to face American DLam, who had received an AW in the first round round against Mexican Raicou_16. RiuT effortlessly took home a 3-0 win, beginning his journey to the Maldives in top shape. However, in the next round, things would not look as easy for him, seeing as he faced Canadian AoC talent Hera, a member of the Wolfpack clan. Hera defeated Brazilian Q_W_e_r_T_y in the first round, and proceeded to an exciting match against Brazil B player BruH. This game could have gone both ways, but in the end, Hera pulled home a 3-2 victory and proceeded. However, this was also the limit of Heras capabilities, as three short games made short work of him against RiuT, permitting the TyRanT a spot in the regional final.
Here, he would face even more opposite. In the opposite end of the bracket, another Wolfpack player, in the person of Argentinian JuaNNN, received a bye in the first round. Subsequently, he had little difficulty beating Brazilian Dann, who had beaten Mexican L_Clan_Cabron 2-1 in the first round, with 3-0. However, things would not continue to be easy for JuaNNN, for in the other end of his bracket, Brazil A player St4rk was to be found. St4rk received a bye in the first round, and the next defeated USA A player Influenza soundly 3-0. JuaNNN was far from guaranteed victory, but nonetheless won 3-1, losing only one game to St4rk. JuaNNN subsequently played his chance against RiuT, but the TyRanT proved he is making his claims for the spot as the worlds best at AoC real. In the end, the struggle between RiuT and JuaNNN ended up as the only regional final across all continents to end with a clean sheet. With 4-0, and the only player with no losses against him at this point in the tournament, RiuT was ready for the Showdown stage, while JuaNNN was forced to take a detour through the play-offs.
In the next bracket, another Brazilian TyRanT Warlords player was a favorite, in the person of F1re. However, he road to the regional final would prove rockier than expected, despite receiving a bye in the first round. In the next, he faced American 9mil, having gotten an AW against Brazilian xXBabkaXx in the first round. However in this round, F1re received an AW after difficult scheduling, and as such was ready for the regional semifinal having played no games. Here, he faced Brazil B player Miguel, in what would end up a very entertaining game. Miguel proved surprising by winning the Arabia game, before F1re equalized in Rooster. What followd then, was a very unique Regicide Fortress game. While scouting with his king, Miguel was accidentally trapped by F1re walling of a corner of his map for resource gathering. At first, Miguel kept his king hidden, but the GG was forced as soon as F1re discovered it. This loss proved grueling for Miguel in the long run, as F1re won an entertaining set 3-2, and proceeded to the final.
Here, is expected opponent was Argentinian Nicov, who received a bye in the first round as the top seed. Next, Nicov defeated VN_HEIMDALL, but ran into opposition in the semifinal by resurrected Brazilian WraTh. WraTh defeated Mexican GarFra in the first round, and later won a close 3-2 victory against American Spring, to proceed to the semifinal against Nicov. Here, he proved surprisingly dominant, and eased to a 3-0 victory, setting him up for the Brazilian clash against F1re. WraTh won the Arabia game, to the surprise of many, and despite F1re pulling two games back in Atacama and Migration, WraTh proved, similar to his victory against Nicov, surprisingly dominant against the TyRanT, pulling off victories in Crater Lake and Double Arabia, to pull to score 3-2 before a decisive Teutons War in Hippo's Belly. This battle was close, but WraTh pulled the score 4-2, to surprisingly reach the showdown stage.
The next bracket was the only American bracket devoid of TyRanTs, leaving Wolfpack player dogao as the clear favorite. Dogao took the tournament seriously, and practiced very hard, which proved to pay off early on. Receiving a bye in the first round, dogao proceeded to face country-mate scrath in the next round, winning 3-0 with little difficulty. This set him up in a meeting with Argentinian Milo, who had not been playing a lot recently, despite defeating Mexican Natural_Mystic 2-0 and later countryman Patin_ZZ with an AW. However, against dogao, Milo was clearly against an opponent in absolute top shape. The Argentinian had little opportunity to truly prevent the inevitable, and 3-0 became the score in dogaos favor after the game, admitting the Brazilian a spot in the regional final.
Here, the competition to be able to meet him was fierce. Canadian Ra received the bye for the top seed in the first round, and proceeded to meet American Athena, who had defeated Argentinian Riverplation in the first round. Surprisingly for many, Athena, despite having a rating in the 1800's in 1v1, set up a terrific game against Ra. Athena won first the Arabia game, before Ra pulled the score even in his homemap Rooster. Next, Athena won Raft and Hamburger, securing him a surprising 3-2 win, against the much higher rated Ra. However, the next round proved a tough disposition for Athena. Brazilian GoKu opened his tournament by beating Pugsoverdrugs from USA with 2-0, and subsequently received an AW against country-mate ClaudiaMED, having himself won an AW against TheLynx from Brazil in the first round. GoKu pounded Athena with a 3-0 defeat, and was ready for the regional final against dogao. Dogao proved once again that his hard training ahd paid off in this game. He won the Dry Arabia game, and although GoKu won his home map Rooster, as he usually does, dogao soon proved why he was a top seed in the tournament. In a true flurry of water maps that followed, dogao won Islands, Baltic, and finally Ghost Lake, to secure himself a 4-1 victory, clearly proving that he deserved his spot in the showdown stage, while GoKu had to face the fierce competition of the play-offs.
In the final bracket of America, another TyRanT warlords player in the person of Canadian Slam was the favorite, and hence, he received a bye in the first round. He then proceeded to soundly defeat Chilean VN_Katon in the next round, Katon having won against Brazilian hito in the first. However, stronger opposition was waiting in the regional semifinal. Here, he faced former NaBs, now Wolfpack player Mentalist, alias psycho. Mentalist defeated the only sign up from Nicaragua, As_Mya_Arg in the first round, before facing Argentine Arena expert Fedex in the next. Fedex had one 2-0 against [NPC_]Naruto in the first round, but against Mentalist, he encountered trouble. Despite winning his home map Arena as expected, Mentalist won the game 3-1, and was ready for the Canadian showdown against Slam in the next round. This provided one of the big surprises of the tournament. Mentalist won the Dry Arabia game, and despite Slam pulling one back through a Ghost Lake victory, the level displayed by Mentalist was too high. He won Nomad, and later Raft, and with a 3-1 victory, a TyRanT player had been defeated completely from the tournament, without even a chance to prove himself in the play-off stage. Mentalist however, was ready for the final.
Here, his clanmate FeAge was favorite to face him, despite some nasty opponents en route. FeAge received a bye in the first round, and proceeded to defeat 65_Aramis_ 3-1 in the next. This meant FeAge faced American AoC legend Hasan, who had been a top player of the game for years. Hasan had beaten fellow American Embers 2-0 in the first round, and then beaten Brazil C player Magnata with 3-1 in the next round, Magnata having beaten [FOX]Fight 2-1 in the first. FeAge won the Dry Arabia game here, and later Nomad and Raft, lending little credence to the fact that Hasan managed to win a game of Islands. With 3-1, FeAge was ready to face Mentalist in the regional final. Here, Mentalist got off to a great start winning the Dry Arabia game, and then proceeded to prove his worth in the next games, despite being, by own admission aided by great maps. FeAge pulled one back with a Migration win, but Mentalist proved strongest at length, winning Nomad, Regicide Fortress, and Islands. With a 4-1 win, the last American bracket ended with the Canadian victory to break the Brazilian hegemony so far, while FeAge had to take the route through play-offs.
