I cant really think of a worse way to start, everyone is literally laughing at the event right now... WSVG was already viewed as a shady organization and many people were skeptical about the event as well. They needed to nail this and the only thing they have nailed is another nail into their coffin.
I feel happy for the AoCers that managed to get a free holiday out of this, they should make the most out of this opportunity... but as far as putting age of empires on the "world stage" I would be embarrassed to be associated with this right now... but there is no escape since WSVG bought Voobly!
And seriously, how anybody could see the Maldives being a great place to host an international esport event is beyond me. Their timezone is not good for the majority of viewers, their average internet speed is 280kb/s (super great for streaming!) And you have to fly all of the players half way around the world... surely it will be super profitable to continue hosting there.
I think someones butt is still a tad sore about the owner not returning your call??
