Announcement

Age of Empires II is still alive, well and good - and with the Holiday Season upon us, what better gift could we ask for than another Age of Empires II event. We are particularly excited to start the New Year with a wrang of a tournament - Wrang of Fire III hosted by grathwrang.
Wrang of Fire III is a 1v1v1 tournament that will span across three weeks and will feature a fantastic twist on old map favourites with a new and refreshing format.

Due to the nature of the tournament settings, we can already guarantee that the games will be absolutely incredible, chaotic and unpredictable. No game will be the same as players will be forced to split their attention across two opponents, with the potential for back stabbing, colluding and more, and with spec chat operational, we'll be able to see all of the in-game negotiations.

In addition to an open qualifying round, the tournament will feature one massive single-elimination stage, holding up to 81 players. This means that every game, every minute and second, will matter for the players as one mistake can be the difference between advancing or elimination.

WWC with weird maps that most of the players hate to play..
Wrang of Fire where highest rated player mostly plays 1v2, ideally vs douche + castle drop or such..
Master of Socotra on the most hated map in the AoE history..

Keep it going, in order to motivate people for AoE II instead of AoE IV, make tournaments where players will suffer.

Why would anyone douche in a 1v1v1, isn’t that just gifting the third player the win?

I still really feel bad about your experience last time, and I think your complaint has a lot of validity to it, but this is about the community as a whole and not catering specifically to pro players; this is a community funded tournament after all, it could very easily have been for like $100-$200 but people wanted to support this format. The next tournament I run will be a truly unique 1v1 format that I guarantee all the pros will be excited to try, so if this isnt up your alley DracKen, don't worry, I got you.

Don't worry, it's my problem to get annoyed by FFA/diplo games. Also not complaining about the tournament, surely there are players that enjoy to play those settings, so I wish you more happy players and less rage quits than last time 11.

As a recognized player, I feel that you should support tournament initiatives. For many people it is boring to watch a 1v1 game. These initiatives bring a lot of entertainment and earnings to casters

I wish sponsors would take organizers more seriously. This tournament or if it's even possible to be called a tournament turned out to be a joke. Let me give you my experience of it:

So, Ro27 was played a week ago and I won the set 2-1-0. After 3 days, tournament organizer says 2 of the 3 players didn't follow strictly the rules of civ picking (the other player didn't even know because he could of just said so and we just re the game). Its called an honest mistake from the 3 players. Alright, so since this was already played, just move on and focus on next round players following civ picking correctly right? If the 3 players didn't even know about that particular rule, why bother to replay it?

Well, guess what, I got screwed. Had to replay it, obviously because admin said so, and the other 2 players didn't give a **** and hey, it's another chance to maybe "go through" in the tournament.
I obviously lost the "replay", seems 2 jerks united and it wasnt even FFA because their armies wouldnt even touch each other until I had 0 vills or just left the game.

Sad to see things like this from a tournament organizer and from players. Please sponsors, if you can help AoE2, this is not the best way. Contact serious people who care about the game and know how to organize an event.

Thanks for the read and hope I save people from signing up to events of this "organizer".

Hi, local Aoezone shitposter here. Instead of passive aggressive/outright aggressive insults towards a community funded tournament, it would probably be best and more "spicy," as you say, to actually discuss what happened and let folks decide for themselves.

I believe you and Enzberg apparently ran into an admin issue during your set because both of you failed to follow rules for the tournament you signed up to play. Your set had multiple players who failed to follow the tournaments rules by picking civs that had already been utilized in previous set games. This is a clear violation of the tournament rules, which prevents such occurrences -- once a civ is used it is unplayable the rest of the set.

This is the part of the post where we have to acknowledge that you played a critical part in an admin decision being necessary by your inability to follow the tournament rules.

We'll call this taking personal responsibility for one's actions, since if you had followed the rules, there wouldn't be an admin decision to question in the first place. I'm betting if you won the set with only Enzberg having broken the rules, the set would've likely stood. However, that wasn't the case and thus by failing to follow the basic tournament rules you opened yourself up to the possibility of admin action in the set. One can admit they are human and forgot the rules, but it is your responsibility to know the rules to prevent such an occurrence.

Folks can discuss whether whatever ultimate admin call was the correct way forward. That's completely normal and an expected reaction, most of all from those impacted. You were probably a bit salty that you felt you had already set aside time and effort and felt you had won the set fairly, so were naturally upset when the admin's arrived at different conclusion. Indeed, you call your opponents "jerks," which denotes a certain level of disrespect and would indicate you're quite upset about it.

Alas, why we're here: You decided to play the replay. You lost the replay so this is you venting your experience.

What doesn't sit well is that you felt the need to disparage the tournament and organizer due to failing to win the game(s) you had to replay. Would you have posted this if you had won your game(s) and moved on?

I bet not.

I don't think it's necessary to disparage community funded tournaments because you had a poor experience that you were responsible for.

Se recoge lo que se siembra.

Honestly, the level of disrespect from a "pro player," towards members of the community volunteering their time to put together a random community tournament is absolutely ridiculous.

If it weren't Capoch I would be surprised. You should be ashamed of yourself. Absolutely disgraceful behavior.

You play the replay then have the nerve to write the diatribe after you lost.

You talk an awful lot about "sponsors," but I don't know why anyone would sponsor such entitled unsportsmanlike behavior from yourself.

Glad you were ashamed enough to have deleted your post, but you should write an apology.

@L_Clan_Capoch

This is a community-funded tournament. Many individuals of grathwrang's community put their own money into the pool because they wanted to see this format. You have zero entitlement to their money, and zero entitlement to demand that they fund a tournament format that they have no interest in funding just because it suits you. The competitive scene is far more diverse than seeing people like you playing all the time in the same settings.

You willingly and knowingly signed up to a 1v1v1 tournament, with players as low as 700 Elo to as high as ~2k4. What the hell did you expect? It is not in a 1300 and a 1700s interest to kill each other and just let you win every game because you're a pRo GaMeR. The only way for them to win is to play to the format, and that involves teaming together to help bring you down. That's the entire idea of the tournament - diplomacy.

I refer to literally line one, the first sentence of the rules:

"Conniving, backstabbing, colluding, laming, whatever etc are all ACCEPTABLE for this tournament."

Also, the third sentence of the rules:

"Also, EVERYONE: do not come into this tournament expecting nice, courteous, fair game play; Socotra is on the map pool for a reason."

It's not surprising that you didn't read the civ picking rules, when you didn't even read the first paragraph of the rules.

Further, your conduct after being informed that you broke the rules and received an admin decision has been disgusting. So disgusting that you've prompted me to write my first ever AoEZone post like this.

Your very first reaction was to call your opponents (who had nothing to do with the admin decision) sad and opportunist.

Then during the rematch which you were luckily afforded, you continued to insult and be rude toward your opponents.

"How sad is must be to lose and have to replay and 2v1 to 0 vills"
"im not nice to people who just take advantage"
"haha you guys are ******ed"
"noobs unite! gj"
"gonna hide vills"
"lovely girlfriend is Flem"
"life must be so sad at low elo i guess"

You then proceeded to write an AoEZone comment further insulting your opponents and calling them jerks, thankfully you noticed that you look silly and deleted it, though luckily it has been quoted.

I have attached screenshots of your messages, and they are all publicly available in the complete context on the VOD or on the aoe2 insights website.

I have also attached a reaction to the format from Modri (he has nothing to do with me or my reply), WOF2's champion, to show the comparison between a mature adult's reaction to being 2v1'ed and a man-child's.

Your conduct is completely unacceptable and uncalled for. I can't imagine you'd have the balls to do this in an S-tier or professionally organised tournament as you'd be blacklisted. So you're just trying to punch down. Incredibibly disappointing to see someone I've cheered for and promoted their build order PDF for act like this.

Hello everyone. As this thread is a bit active right now, I'd like to point out that we're at the last 9 in the tournament and the semis start 16.00 GMT today. There's $100 dollar viewer prediction contest in grathwrang's discord here https://discord.com/channels/695856820308279368/929795139499589682 Someone's going to walk away with $100 bucks!!!

Also, if you want to see the games that this drama is about, they're on the VOD at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1267153621 (you'll have to FF through a BANGING set from Survivalist, Uno1 and Dziamdjak to get to it.)
