Okay, I dont know if this would ever happen and even if it would be legal to do that 11
But Im curious what you think about my idea:
Im thinking of having aoc leagues for different ratings (maybe even in 100 rating steps).
And since there would be a huge effort in organising this and always having moderators around to check no smurfing is possible, I thought of how other long-time existing games manage these problems, like poker, chess, mills, draughts etc.
and imo its possible to compare aoc to games like that, especially chess for the strategical aspects and poker for the reading abilities and the implied luck that can be reduced by skill.
But back to the topic, especially poker is one of the most growing sports/games even its about real money and u might even lose some.. or is this the reason why it grows that much?
I was thinking, if it is legal (tell me if not 11), to have a aoc league with a "buy-in", maybe just start with 1-5$, what should be no trouble for anyone. from this money I would sponsor the prizes and the moderators helping, even I still hope for a lot of volunteers to help like we have it now 11.
The pay-outs for every league (with lets suppose 30 entries) could look like:
1st 35% (usually in poker or smthing its a lot higher for first place, but I thought its better to pay more players, especially for testing)
2nd 20%
3-5 10%
6-8 5%
Correct me if im wrong, but if we suppose a league got 30 entries for 1$, even if we take a maximum 5$ to pay the helpers (what would be faaar to much since there will be more leagues going on), first place would 8,75$ which is a kinda nice win, while 6-8th player still get 1,25$ back. and having 8 places of 30 entries payed is a lot.
If the staff can ensure that no smurfing is going on and there are leagues in 100rating steps, I think its possible for everyone if he practises a lot to be one of the 8 best players out of 30 others starting with the same rating.
maybe even some sponsors would be ready to put more money in.
I think this would be a great way to give every single player, no matter what rating he is, the motivation to play, since he could dominate his own league and maybe move up for next season to the next league.
So tell me what you think, tell me if u think it would be legal and tell me if you would be willing to pay for a well organised league-system that hopefully prevents smurfing and gives everyone a fair chance of winning.
And I get that maybe a league with a prize pool of 8,75$ for 1st place might be not attrative to some experts, but who knows, maybe there would be more money involved 11
But for starting: low buy-ins wont hurt anyone and especially for a 16xx it might be a great feeling to win some money from playing aoc! :D
