Hidden Civilisation mode:
Winter’s War will be using the ‘Hidden Civilisations’ mode throughout this tournament. This is to enable teams to think more closely on civ pick strategies and to use their picks wisely. There are 3 tiers that will consist in the format of a ‘Top tier’, ‘Mid Tier’ and Lower Tier’ civilisations.
The civilisation tiers for the tournament are listed below:-
Tier 1 - Top Tier
Tier 2 - Mid-Tier
Tier 3 - Lower Tier
Teams must pick one civilisation from each of the 3 tiers for every game in a series. For example…If the game series is a 3 vs 3 – Each team must pick one civilisation from the Top Tier, one from the Mid-Tier and one from the Lower Tier.
For a 2 vs 2 teams can pick 2 civilisations from any 2 of the 3 tiers but will not be able to pick the same civilisation they have already used in that current series.
Teams will not be allowed to select the same civilisation more than once throughout a series and this is repeated for Top Tier, Mid-Tier and Lower Tier, until the series has concluded and teams are able to start with a clean slate for their next round of games. For example - if Slavs are picked for game 1, then for games 2,3,4 etc. your team will not be able to pick Slavs again for the remainder of that current series.
Teams who pick the same civilisation more than once in a series will forfeit the game round the offence occurred in, regardless of the result. We encourage keeping a record of civilisations your team have picked thus far in a series.
Teams are advised after each game has ended to discuss and pick their choice of civilisations as soon as possible for their next game. - This has been limited to approximately 5 minutes maximum in-between games, so teams and casters are not left waiting for long periods before the next game/s commence.
The lobby host for the game room MUST ensure Hidden civilisations is enabled on the lobby settings when hosting a game.

Swapping players in and out of games:
Teams with 4 or 5 players will be allowed to swap a player/s out in-between games. Only players registered on your team at sign-ups and playing under the same name will be allowed to participate.
However, for a series that includes multiple 2 vs 2 games, the same two players cannot play both of the 2 vs 2 games in that current series.
For example, if Nili and TaToH played the first 2 vs 2 - then either Nili or TaToH will have to swap out for TheViper or another team member for the next 2 vs 2 in that series. This is to ensure all players in a team get a fair chance of participating and encourage more team play and tactics.
Any teams found to be swapping in players not on their team roster at sign-ups or playing under a different name will forfeit that series and an admin win will be awarded to the opposing team.

Seeding will be done as follows by:
True, PoLaR, KD & Brisolyn after sign-ups have closed -All teams will be seeded accordingly

Please play all games with your most known name, which should be the name you signed up with.
2 - Respecting Deadlines
All players must respect the tournament schedule and times for each round. No excuse will be accepted for failing to play in the specified time.
If a team/player has not arrived 20 minutes after the scheduled play time their opponent without a valid reason, then it will be up to the opposing teams discretion if they wish to allow additonal waiting time or be granted a 3-0 Admin Win for that series.
Any team giving an Admin Win to their opponent, and not completing any round/games will be penalized 50% of their prize money.
3 - Admin Times
If teams cannot come to an agreement in scheduling their match, the staff will analyse the situation, schedule and time zones in order to add a viable Admin Time that suits both players to the best of our ability. Admins will ensure players are not forced to play games between 2am - 6am local time. If there is no agreement about the playing time by Wednesday 23.59 GMT, the staff might start interfering in order to get the games scheduled and completed in time.
4 - Respect & Fair play
Every player must respect their opponent. Bad behaviour (determined by staff) will result in a warning or may lead to immediate disqualification of the player. This tournament values not only great skills but also sportsmanship and fairness. Any insult, racism or flaming will not be tolerated. Laming and mind games in-game are allowed. Players are requested to limit the time between games as much as possible to make the experience as smooth for everyone as possible.
5 - No Smurfing
All players have agreed to the No Smurf rule. Each player must submit all relevant player usernames for Admin discussion. Smurfing and account sharing is not allowed. Any discovery of the aforementioned will result in player's disqualification.
6 - Lobby Location
All tournament games are to be played in an unranked lobby in AoE2 DE with the allow spectators option turned on. By signing up, players acknowledge that their games can be spectated and cast by any streamers. If a game is not recorded, it must be replayed regardless of the result.
7 - Recorded Games Posting
The winning team must post their recorded games in the recorded games forum straight away after the conclusion of their games with a spoiler result. If this information is not posted, the result will be void.
8 - Scheduling
Players will schedule publicly in the Scheduling Forum. zScheduling should be conducted using GMT time zone. Scheduled Games may be posted in the Winter’s War Tournament Progress Thread. Players must allow at least 8 hours between final confirmation & the game time to allow for broadcasters to prepare for their series.
9 - Restoring
In case of disconnections, the players must attempt to save and restore. All the .aoe2record recorded game files (multiple parts of the game before/after drop) must be provided when posting the recorded games. If restoring is not possible, the recorded game should be provided, along with any additional information to the Administration of Winter’s War instantly. Subsequently, facts will be analysed, and a final decision made. If an Admin is not around at the time of playing and the players cannot agree on a result, continue with the rest of the series and if the series is tied 2-2 at the end, then the final game shall be rescheduled.
If a player on your team realises they have dropped during a game, please communicate with your team as soon as possible to have the current game saved and then restored.
10 - Schedule Reliability, Admin Wins, Rescheduling
If a player / team does not show up to a scheduled game without notice their opponent must wait for a minimum of 20 minutes before any action can be taken. They should notify an Admin as soon as possible and a decision will be made.

11 - Prize Money
Prizes will be sent via PayPal. If the recipients do not use/have PayPal the prizes will be sent by other means. However, certain fees may be deducted from the amount.
12 - Communication
One player in a team must be fluent in English and is responsible for scheduling, possible disputes, and everything else regarding their participation. If a player is not fluent in English, they can have an External Operator to represent them during scheduling, recorded game posting and in the Winter’s War tournament in general. The External Operator must be added in the sign-up post.
13 - Streaming & Spectating
The entire event is open streaming. Anyone may freely stream any of the games live or as recorded games. However, please ensure the tournament banner is on display somewhere on your stream when casting both live and recorded games. Winter’s War banner can be located below:-
Players who wish to stream the PoV of their tournament games MUST have a 1-minute stream delay added through their streaming program.
14 - Rules Additions
New rules can be added and current rules can be changed. However, Admins must inform the players about such changes in the Winter’s War Rules & Settings forum. All the latest additions in Rules & Settings will be in red.
