It's not really the same but...
I came from starcraft so I have a tainted view, but laming was an integral part of the game there. Ladder was rampant with super gimmicky strategies on us server, and super aggressive strategies on kor server. AoC is in the super minority of games where people want it sim city style with little variance and sitting back and building up army.
I can understand if people want no lame style for some tournaments given the culture of AoC.
It's off topic, but I've always found it weird that you don't start with one sheep under your tc. The maps where you don't kill your sheep for the first 60s while the other person has theirs in tc sight happens a lot and makes for an unfair dark age where there is literally zero skill involved yet. All within the first few seconds.
