If he had clicked 0.25 distance away from the edge to accomodate the width of the scout (143.75 instead of 143.875), his patrol would have been fine. It was just terrible luck and some good old ES'ing, yes lol
it doesn't really matter actually, at the pace spaden is practicing, he will be 2k6 soonTy so much. So do I get it right, that his scout wouldnt stop patrolling if he would click him by 0.125 tile away? And he would find out the landing by Eason and he would win the game because of that? If 1, its a really bad luck.
I checked the rec and the cause was that the patrol destination point was set to x:143.875, y:127.25. There are several interesting issues with this point lol. The first is that it's not on the land. In this picture, I've added a fishing ship into the recorded game and the right side of the ship's sail is where the chosen patrol destination point is located.
The problem with this point isn't only that it's offshore, but that it's almost over the map border, as this map's width is 144.0 tiles in size. The game generally tries to avoid allowing the player to move this close to the map border, as the pathfinding system needs to accomodate the width of the unit, as well. For example, if you attempt to move a unit past the map border, it usually autocorrects the point well inside the map border (at least 0.5 tiles inside, I think), and you can see this if you watch where the animated red X appears after clicking. However, if your click is within the map's bounds, it will let you get away with move attempts that can be problematic for pathfinding.
A scout cavalry unit has a unit radius of 0.25 and Spaden managed to click the scout to go to 143.875. This is 0.125 tiles away from the map border, which could not accomodate the width of the scout. The pathfinding system was able to "move" on the first trip, but on all future attempts, it couldn't figure out a way to get the scout to that point considering the width of the unit, etc. In this way, the scout was left to retry and fail to path on each turn indefinitely.
The pathfinding system was left untouched by UP, as it's too dangerous to adjust it without source code (unintended consequences that would occur by fixing bugs when other parts of the code rely on those bugs lol), so these issues remain carried over from v1.0c. Sorry for the ridiculous details in this post lol, and sorry to Spaden for the trouble.
Here's a test scenario to try it in v1.0c or v1.4: http://www.files.com/shared/53980158a76 ... r-test.zip
Why you didn't work for AoE2:HD?The pathfinding system was left untouched by UP, as it's too dangerous to adjust it without source code (unintended consequences that would occur by fixing bugs when other parts of the code rely on those bugs lol), so these issues remain carried over from v1.0c.
