Why age of empire 2 is beautiful...
Age of empire 2 is a game for all, and that's the beauty of it.
Why is it a game for all? Because of the different playstyles that are out there. One may be more beneficials at winning the game but it doesn't matter, you have to choose your style and be good at it.
Introducing Fatslob, only play one style. Wall boom into imp Viking push. It's annoying to play against but effective vs aggressive players who wants to end the match asap. Hera, the meta passive player who doesn't really favor micro over Marco but he bids his time and making sure he has the right eco balance for end game. But if he needs to, he can micro like a god which makes him a scary player. But overall he's just a meta guy. Playing what ever the meta is to win and punishes aggressors with his meta game playstyle. There are a lot of different play styles but I don't think I can cover them all, the best play style I've ever seen is... You guess it... Theviper... The master of adaptation to "it depends" on situation, and his ability to out marco/micro his opponents is needless is say.. "UNFAIR". Very very dangerous combination to deal with. He just read the game like a chess board. It's like him sacrificing his queen for a knight because he knows that he will be in a better position after losing that queen. I am a viper fan boy obviously, but the most memoriable game that I've seen was the viper play of Aztec vs Turks. Now, to be honest I've been playing this game a lot and many pros probably know how to deal with this but when I saw it for the first time I was amazed. He talks to himself on stream and came to the conclusion that yeah..... I am vs turks who will probably fast imp into BBC hand cannon push. I am Aztec, I have the best monk tech tree in the game so knowing that he decided to macro his eco into Monks push... Now think about it.... Turks have one of the best scouts/light cav/hussars in the game and if he so choose to go that route, then the viper counter would be difficult to execute. But no, his opponent went fast imp into BBC HC and the viper went full monks play... Convert all the HC/BBC and won the game. It's not mostly macro play or micro play that won. It's his chess reading ability that was so scary. Sure he could be wrong and get counter by scouts but his read is SOO good that it's seldom wrong and that's what make the viper a scary opponent to face. Am not just saying that because of that game but because of all the new mechanics in the games that got introduced and the viper just straights out adapt to everything. Am talking about multi cues, auto scouts, auto reseeds, etc. Phew, sorry I am fanboying but still... At the end of the day, age is beautiful. Your playstyle might not be the winning playstyle, but it is yours and yours alone... It's weird. I like to tower rush on Arena and that's the only yolo thing I would do but it works 40% of the time. And when it works oh boy, it's a wonderful feeling. Seeing 2-3-4-5 enemy vils dying to my tower push is satisfying.. Of course the down side is seeing all my vils die to a counter push But still, it's what make this game so great. People have their own play style and it works for them, it doesn't have to work all the time, just some of the time. It's like buying a lottery ticket, you never know when you would hit a winner. This game is so complex and enjoyable that I don't think I would see the end of it. I am getting old now but, I watched a documentary one day about a guy who had the last day of his life. The guy was in his 80s. Had a full day breakfast, lunch, and played a casual chess with his grandson and died of a heart failure... I wouldn't mind if I get old and the last thing I did was played a game of simple Age of Empire 2
Thanks for reading, just my 2 cents.
