Genghis Khan is really a fascinating character for sure. Not quite sure the amount of destruction he left behind is admirable by any means though!
Alexander the Great
gotta love Diogenes.Wikipedia said:while Diogenes was relaxing in the morning sunlight, Alexander the Great, thrilled to meet the famous philosopher, asked if there was any favour he might do for him. Diogenes replied, "Yes, stand out of my sunlight."
Indeed. I also like how it continues:gotta love Diogenes.
Life of Alexander by Plutarch (p. 260) said:It is said that Alexander was so struck by this, and admired so much the haughtiness and grandeur of the man who had nothing but scorn for him, that he said to his followers, who were laughing and jesting about the philosopher as they went away, "But verily, if I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes."
I'm not denying he is a product of his time, nor that the other empires ruling in Europe were any better in that era. I just find it very hard to "admire" the man since there is also a lot of devastation that could probably have been prevented, and that the Mongol empire was actually very short lived and collapsed pretty fast afterwards.Well, you have to take into consideration his life experiences and most importantly the era he lived in. His enemies and allies were the same, "even" European kingdoms did horrible things during these times in the Middle East for example.
Also when he was a man of his word. He was cruel only to those who opposed him. He spread fear as a strategic weapon. If he would be merciful to those who didn't surrender to him, there would be no point in using the strategy anymore. His empire was secular, which is beyond futuristic a didn't oppress any minorities.
Turtle ships #clearly OP, please nerf.He had won with only 13 ships against 333 ships

Here we have this serious thread about historical figures, people talking about why in their opinion a certain figure in the past has risen to greatness. A lively debate could follow, interesting visions and arguments could be shared. The wonders of an internet forum.
But alas, we have DauT fanbois.
